A Level Results Day

Recommended Posts

More congratulations!

OH didn't get decent A Level grades and had to beg himself a place at uni (his sob story would've won an oscar  ).He reckons it is the best thing that ever happened! He changed course slightly in his second year, enjoyed the course, met some of his closest friends and oh yeah, met me there too!

A friend's daughter didn't get the grades needed so spent a year working and doing retakes to meet the renegotiated number of points her first choice uni had agreed they would accept her with. She got the marks but the uni then changed their minds and refused to take her as they had too many other people wanting the course who had met the original number of points. So she worked another year and had a good think and decided she was chasing the wrong dream, she didn't even really want to do the original course anymore but she had become so focused on it that she hadn't really considered anything else. She is now training as a paramedic and loving it! She shone at interview as she could show strength of character and perseverance and work experience.

Oops should have been more clear before, I didn't know I'd got in yet at that point- needed the other two results to know for sure

Luckily I did get in though  I got A*, 2 A's and a B so I'm pretty chuffed :D:D

I'm off to Glasgow University (3 weeks tomorrow :anxious:) to do veterinary biosciences. It's ages away from home, so I'm nervous about leaving but mostly excited :) Good news for most of my friends too, a few of them are disappointed at having to take their insurance, but good results :)

Many congrats to everyone , so proud of you all.......To those that have had a tough day, don't feel bad , have your cry , blow your nose and wash your face , there are so many choices out there.

I sat my O'levels with concussion and didn't get the grades i wanted, but i got on with life, then went back to college and sat them again, i took the 5 i needed in just one year and passed them all.....what did i do with it ???

Went into nursing ,passed every course i entered and then went to Australia to study Hyperbaric medicine . One of the few nurses to hold a diploma for this speciality in the world, i was very proud of myself. :D

We are very fortunate in England that education is open to anyone at any time and any age . You will all do brilliantly whatever you decide, don't be scared to go back and try again .

Well done everyone who got the grades they wanted. Just as a reassurance for those that didn't...my eldest SD didn't get the grades she wanted so she stayed on for an extra year and did them again. she succeeded & got her place at Stirling. She is now starting year 3 and is really happy.

There is light at the end of the tunnel :D

I went to Glasgow (well, Strathclyde) many moons ago - I'm sure you'll love it, Glasgow is a great city 8) .

My DS took his A levels last year, and we were naturally delighted that he got the grades he needed for his first choice uni....however, as you may remember me posting just after christmas he hated his course , particularly the Maths aspect of it, and so decided to leave, having first secured a place on a different course (another science based course) at the same Uni for this October... ... at the same fee level..(ie £3000), the course tutor for the new course was very supportive and said that some of her best ever students were those that had swapped courses, as there was a real commitment to the new subject. However, it became quickly apparent to him (and us) that the substitute course was just that, a compromise. With some trepidation he reapplied through UCAS for a course in a completely different direction, and was surprised and delighted to get five unconditional offers ...and so this September he is going off (again!) to his first choice uni to do his first choice course in a completely different discipline.(albeit at the new fee level) ... he is positively buzzing at the idea of his new course in a way that he just never was before and so we are all confident that this is the best possible outcome for him. . Sometimes a little breathing space is all that you need...it's not the worst thing in the world to take a year out if things aren't going to plan....

My brother got into his first choice, Nottingham and so is happy!

Friends also did well - really proud of all of them.

Great news Penny! 8)

Well done to your ES, Chucky Mama! and to Ellie, Laurmurf! :D

I failed 3 of my A Levels but am just starting 3rd year at the Uni I wanted to go to on the course I wanted to be on! It was the only place I looked at, got 2 unconditional offers and money to go there so I didn't try for my exams.

Can see it was stupid 2 years later and regret it now but am still where I wanted to be! Just need to try harder now so it doesn't come back to bite me.

Well done from us all in Sparkys house too :clap: Some fantastic results there and delighted to hear about those who got all their first choices esp C/M son getting into medicine - such hard work very well done  Sparky's boys did really well too. Jonathan got an A & B in his advanced highers and Anthony 4A's and a B in his highers. Just hoping he'll do something semi sensible this year and beyond. Alli x
