Just wondered if anybody gives their chickens pumpkin?

I read in a magazine that it is a natural wormer for chickens

We're carving pumpkins tomorrow and thought the insides of them could be eaten up by the girls, although I hate pulling out the middle of them at least it may have some benefit for a change

I wouldn't rely on it as a wormer as I doubt it would be as effective as flubenvet or something similar. I would still give them the insides though as they might enjoy them

I would definitely save it for them to eat, they'll love it - but I doubt if it is effective as a wormer. I don't trust anything but Flubenvet.

Not sure about a wormer but my girls love it .

Confirmed love its in my coops. Persil & Ariel are that enthusiastic at grabbing beakfuls that they end up with orange bibs.

 

Didn't know about worming properties but it can't hurt to have a but of help mid-flubenvet cycles can it.

Glad I popped by - I was just about to ask if they can eat the seeds - just made pumpkin muffins.

Do you give the pumpkin raw or cooked ?

Raw, I just slice it in half and they clean it out to resemble a nice bowl.

Sounds a bit gross but I blended some pumpkin and seeds with natural yoghurt and made it a smoothie for them, they loved it The seeds were more manageable for the younger one's once blended up

I give it to mine raw and cooked.Chop the peel up and cook that ..In fact it is one of their favourites.

Hmmm, I might get them a pumpkin today then and see what they all make of it. Keep their minds off pecking and chasing each other.

Glad I saved the insides of the carved pumpkins....off to give it to the girls!!!

 

Looks like they will get the shells to clean out as well!!

bother just green binned mine. I have one home grown one left to use so will use that and give them.

Oh no I have brought the school pumpkin home for the chooks as eceryone said that they love them but we have kept the seeds for collages
