craftyhunnypie
My 2 Kune Kune piggies are getting a boyfriend as an early Christmas present. We are hoping to put them 'in pig' for next Spring, so have been searching for ' the right' boar for them after much reading & research. We are going to see a good registered (pedigree) one on Sunday. Fingers crossed he will be perfect for my girls ..ie: not too big for them ( height & weight wise). craftyhunnypie
We're back! Unfortunately, he wasn't suitable. He was a huuuge monster! He was 5 times the size of my girls - he would have hurt them I think. Not to mention that I'd have felt quite threatened by him & my hubby also wasn't keen on how big he was. We think he could have been a grumpy boar, as the owner came across as a bit wary of him. Ah well. Emma.x
craftyhunnypie
We have decided to buy in an entire boar piglet & raise him up ourselves, so that we can gain confidence with a boar & him gain trust in us. So the breeding program will be delayed for a while, until the piglet meets maturity. We are viewing & choosing our piglet on Friday. We will be busy over the next few weeks building a new piggy playground, so as we can rotate the piggies again & give the land they were on a rest, ready to grow again in the Spring. Tilly & Flo will love it on the fresh grass. No doubt Flo will run up & down & do twizzles in excitement, like she normally does. She is so funny. Redwing
Brilliant, I am so glad that things are developing nicely for you on your holding If you need home raised pork sooner you can always buy a couple of weaners in the spring. I agree with the raising of the male yourself, we have raised (with a bit of help along the way ) a wonderful ram in Kilo, he is so easy to deal with - nothing better than moulding your own boys if you are to be confident with them as adults

craftyhunnypie
Honestly Redwing!! You really would not of believed the size of this boar! I am still having night mares about it. I can only describe it as like something out of Harry Potter. This little boy will have a name being as he will be part of our breeding program. We quite like Frank or Frankie. Then if he is too much of a handful as he grows & we decide to send him off - he can then be Frankenfurter! ( yes we do like Rocky Horror). Ha ha. craftyhunnypie
We have chosen a piglet! He will be coming in about 4 weeks time, once weaned. He is black, pudgy & so very cute. Obviously he will grow, but we have seen his mum & dad, who are a small strain. He will be called Frankie. Emma.x

craftyhunnypie
Ha ha - we've been busy extending & creating a new pig area. We already have 2.. the first one is just starting to recover & surprisingly sprout grass again. I can't wait for Frankie to come. Obviously he's not going to be mature enough to breed from for a good while, but at least we get to mould him to how we want him to behave & gain confidence with him. He is going to be a character I reckon & I'm sure we will laugh at him as much as we do the girls. Tilly & Flo are to be wormed in the next few days. I went the vets today to pick up the wormer. The way they eat their food, I don't think they will notice it. You'll have to pop over Lisa & meet them & Frankie when he arrives. Then you can see what Kune Kunes are like for yourself. LisaP
We would love to pop over and meet Frankie and the girls and you of course When is Frankie arriving? He sounds very sweet, all cute and squishy We will going back to the abattoir in a couple of weeks to collect the bacon, waiting for a call to find out exactly when but maybe we could pop over then if convenient. We had to move our girls area several times, they did plough but where they have been has grown back much healthier looking and a totally different colour to the rest of the field. I don't want cows either, I find them mildly terrifying Lisa

craftyhunnypie
Frankie is here! He is so bloomin' cute! He managed to get out yesterday though, within half an hour of him being delivered. Hubby, even though I'd warned him - had not seen to a piglet sized hole in the fence! It took 5 adults to catch him....boy did he run! Poor little love was terrified. He'd not sussed out his territory, his food, his bed etc. No wonder he ran! It was very funny to watch. Our neighbour was doing a bullfighting act with his jacket & dived on him, but he got free, hubby was legging it this way & that. I was there all calm arms outstretched, another neighbour was flapping her washing at little Frankie. Then another neighbour (dippy) was stood there with a fishermans keep net!!!!! In the end, John just cornered him & scooped him up.He used to have pigs. Frankie & all of us slept very well last night. He he. He is settling in well today. Valkyrie
Ahem - piccies! It's Wednesday and I'm impatient! We have "adopted" a pig - so in a few months we'll be having it returned for nomming! We will be able to go and visit as well, but it's quite a way so would be a weekend trip to Hereford. craftyhunnypie
Sorry folks, I've not been very well. Had the awful Noro virus - as well as a horrendous cold & now a yukky cough. Almost over it now though. Little Frankie has settled in well & now cuddles up in the big ark with Tilly & Flo. He has adopted Flo as his mummy. We thought he was trying to do naughty things with her the other day as his little trotters were on Flo's bottom & he was peering over her. But it was just normal piglet behaviour. I just melt every time I see him. Emma.x
