Plum
I've heard that sweet potatoes rank no one in nutrition. Has anyone eaten them raw? The healthy eating thread chat thread is locked- why have you all lost weight or despaired? I'm not sure the little black dress is for me this year. Lesley
Well, speaking for myself....I've despaired No idea why it's locked though....I haven't looked at it for ages. I've never eaten sweet potatoes raw........you could always try and then report back here?
Plum
An american told me it was good to eat that way. Seeing as they are likely to smother it in marshmallow and brown sugar I shall try cautiously
chickencam
Why raw? I made a lovely African sweet potato soup today, the only fat a bit of olive oil at the onion frying stage then spices, chilli, red pepper, ginger and garlic and veg stock. yum. Mrs Webmuppet
I use sweet potatoes in soup with butternut squash ( although my colleagues say there should a law against soup that is sooo orange in colour). I bake a sweet potato ( whole in its skin) and eat it with chilli on carne. I wouldn't fancy eating it raw though.
Old Speckled Hen
Sweet potatoes make an excellent coleslaw type salad. Mixed with grated carrot, finely sliced crispy apple like a russet or a fresh cox and with either a very light mayonnaise added sparingly or even better a home made honey mustard dressing. I often make a smoothie with carrots and avocado which is heavenly.
The Dogmother
I use them quite a lot too, either as a regular mashed potato, or in soup, wedges and other dishes.
craftyhunnypie
We put sweet potatoes in stew. They are lovely in stew as they fall & make a hearty thick stew. Mmm mm mmm! We also do cajun wedges with them in the oven. Emma.x
