Six degrees of separation

Recommended Posts

How are we all linked to "famous" people. I was always a bit sceptical about the six degrees of separation thing until I thought about it. (Still not sure how 6 people would lead me to someone in a remote part of a Third World country tho)

My tenuous links are:

My first OH was apprenticed in the 1970's at Boosey & Hawkes. The accounts lady there (who I used to talk to) was called Joan Martin. Her OH was George Martin, who managed the Beatles etc etc. So just 2 people to get to probably most of the pop world.

A business colleague was the BIL of Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio who is an actress so lots of Hollywood stars there

My best friend does a lot of work for the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and regularly goes to the Palace, so all of Royalty there

I learn tap at a local dance school and a pupil there is Isabelle Allen, who is playing young Cosette in the new Les Miserables film (she is also the face of the poster). So, as I have never actually met her I know her through my dance teacher. Only 2 degrees to Hugh Jackman

If only all those people knew that they were linked to little old me

My Mum went to stage school & used to date Dennis Waterman.

My Grandparents bought a Nightclub owned by Diana Dors husband - I have a table of hers in my house....she is linked to most of Hollywood.

My old secondary school maths teacher was Barnes Wallis son.............Sceince links (maybe even Brian Cox  )

I've saluted the D of E and he looked at me as if to say " What the hell was that?", and I've chatted with an American president's bodyguard. It might have been Nixon but I've got a dreadful memory.

I babysat for one of the McWhirters but I can't remember which.

DD works for someone very famous.

My mum knows the mum of the lady horserider who won gold medals in the Paralympics but I can't remember her name either.

My dad met Princess Anne.

As a policewoman I was constantly harrassed by people who asked "Do you know who I am?" - but I didn't. Does that count?

Erm...

I used to live next to and was born one day apart from the daughter of a very famous jazz trumpeter

One of my god fathers is a famous Lord

I have talked chickens with Christian Horner (Formula One boss)

Had a chat with Mrs Thatcher when she was 'The Leaderine'

Got a kiss from Jay Kay this summer

Had coffee with Kylie and her make-up artist (before she was mega-famous)

TBH I am very underwhelmed by famous folks and usually don't have the faintest idea who they are.

 I am often clueless about famous people, although not quite a clueless as my OH.

I was in the porch at church and an elderly but really rather attractive man  came in. I was quite smitten so when he asked me to pass his collection envelopes I took a sneaky look at the name on the box and he was a Lord  , I had to google him but he turned out to have been famous in his day  Guess it makes a change from fancying men young enough to be my son :roll:

I am green with envy

After watching the Larry Lamb episode of Who Do You Think You Are, it was brought to our attention that Mr Griffins nan and Larry are both descended from the Day family circus. One of them used to be highly regarded as a lion tamer, I think Mr Griffin inherited this gene to cope with me

I had a friend who was a friend of the singer Paul Young ... After us both going to one of his gigs, he invited us back to his place where he cooked us Spag Bol  Just before we left, he asked for my number and we ended up dating for a few months whilst he wasn't travelling around doing gigs ... This was about 30 years ago now, but I remember him being an utterley charming and polite young man.

2 years ago, my daughter refused a date with Shane Ward the X Factor winner  and she has fitness trained the wife of footballer Ashley Young.

I used to be the book buyer for a bookstore in High St Kensington. Princess Diana regularly came in to order books (she was very into biographies). She was always utterly charming & asked me how my pregnancy was going until I left to have Eldest. Fergie came in a couple of times, so did another princess whatever, but she didn't have a clue about money & her daughter had to explain the different coinages to her in front of me

My dad used to be a quite famous film editor & has an Oscar. Harrison Ford gave me one of the plastic spiders that they used on the first Indiana Jones film. When my mother saw it she threw it in the bin :(

My mother was engaged to be married to a cousin of the Queen.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: That's the best one!

OH deals with interior designers and so has been to a couple of Spice girls houses, Rod Stewart's house and a couple of Man Utd footballers places - I have no idea and forget their names. A few others too and I can't remember them. And Lady Spencer Churchill - to be fair she is an interior designer anyway! I have spoken to her on the phone though.

My Canadian cousin is a cameraman and has chatted with Jackie Chan without knowing anything about him till his sister and I said in rather a chorus "WHAT!! I LOVE JACKIE CHAN!!" If there are any others I have no idea, sometimes ignorance is bliss!
