lillybettybabs
I am thinking of hatching some of my Araucanas eggs when they start to lay again, they are from show stock and are very laid back and funny. I borrowed and incubator last year to hatch some but would like one of my own, so my question is what to look out for and a good or bad incubator? chestnutmare
The RCOM is brilliant. Have a look on P&T Poultry (website), there are videos of incubators in action there. The Brinsea Mini Eco was my first incubator. I bought a hygrometer for that machine and then noticed how much the humidity fluctuated! lillybettybabs
Yes that is the one i borrowed, we lost a chick that hatched during the night down to being too humid I will have a look at RCOM thanks
surf_space
I've got a Brinsea mini advance and out of the two hatches I've had the first 5/7 survived (the two eggs were infertile anyway) and the second hatch all 7/7 survived, I had absolutely no trouble with it and thought it was great for a hobby incubator. The only trouble I had was trying to clean it, very easy to clean the base and middle however, small bits of chick fluff gets up through the fan, but that obviously didn't infect the 2nd hatch! When I was deciding on which incubator to buy I was torn between the brinsea and the Rcom, however, I thought incubating three eggs was too little (incase anything went wrong, I didn't want to be left with one chick alone) and thought the 20 egg incubators were too much, this brought me to the brinsea. I brought the automatic one as it really is self sufficient and I hardly had to do anything to assist it, apart from adding water for humidity, so I placed in a humidity gage so I could keep an eye on it. Hope this helps,
Lewis
You can't go far wrong with a Brinsea! Maybe have a look at the Octagon 20 with a turning cradle if the Mini is a bit small for you. I have a small Brinsea octagon and an MS Broedmachines 50.

I have the Octagon 20, had never hatched until last year, I was going to buy the smaller one but was advised to go for the Octagon 20 by an Omleteer. I am glad I did I do not have the turning cradle I just turn it manually. I did three hatches last year. I am very happy with it but I have nothing to compare it to, but it seemed to do the job well.
