Some people make me :roll: especially when they don't say please or thank you either.

 

I see quite a lot of 'Desperately need a washing machine/cooker/fridge as mine is broken and I can't afford to buy a new one', which is absolutely fine until when someone kindly offers one in working order and they respond 'what brand is it/what model is it/how old is it?'' I mean, surely if you are desperate...... :?

Got someone looking for carpet on ours as they have just moved into the area :shock:

 

I find this really odd, I wouldn't class carpet as a necessity :? and who wants someone elses dirty old carpet that they are pulling out :vom: we've been renovating for an age so I am looking forward to having nice flooring upstairs as walking on the bare floorboards has made holes in all my socks :lol: but I've managed with bare floorboards for a few years now.

 

I do wish they would do more to get rid of the people to sell on. I like the idea of helping people, a lot of stuff I've given away I could have sold but I'd rather it went to a good home.

 

I also hate the rude people, had one guy who waited until I had helped carry the garden chairs he was collecting to the car before he had a go at me because he felt my house number wasn't sufficiently clear :evil:

I just offered some dvds because I found my nephew had damaged the first disk and my dvd player is very sensitive and someone has replied asking me to deliver to an address which is 20mins drive away from the location I stated in my offer (and that's 20mins if no traffic but involves driving through the middle of town so basically a 1 hr round trip) I'm staggered.

 

However it reminded me of this thread which has made me realise dvds on freecycle are almost certainly going to go on ebay and since I know one disk is damaged I probably ought to remove the offer so I don' let some poor person end up with a ebay dispute

Oh I wouldn't bother - it would serve the Freecycler right for being a greedy so & so & listing something he got for free in the first place :roll::lol:

What goes around comes around & all that.

 

Oddly I have had a few people asking me to drop stuff off of late too, & one asking if they can come to where I work & collect it from me, which would go down like a tonne of bricks with my boss :roll:

I remember my husband got a lot of abuse from a guy who did respond first to us giving away our TP swings, slides and climbing frame. We gave it to another lady who we felt needed it more. The bloke was rude in the first place and OH looked at his record - he was always getting but never giving. The lady who did end up with it was a regular re-user and often put things on freecycle herself so we thought that she was more authentic. He said I got there first and you should have given it to me! And a few other choice words. OH ignored him. But the lady was very happy - she had 3 children and we hoped they got as much fun out of it as we did.

Our local scheme is quite well policed and they give warnings out to anyone who is grabbing too much or obviously uses it to stock up for car boot sales. I reported and then blocked one grabber who was persistently taking from me when we were having a clear-out at work... I spotted him with some of our goodies at a local boot sale :evil:

I know there are people who abuse it, but I must say most of the people I've met recently via Freecycle have been lovely - a lady took two dining chairs and offered to contact me when she has some spare plants, and I met a really nice couple last year who chatted for ages about the hens. There are always some bad apples but my experience has been mostly good and I just ignore anyone who doesn't say 'please' - I think that's a fairly strong indication. I still really love the idea of keeping things out of landfill, I would be throwing the stuff away otherwise as its things I can't take to the charity shop.

Another one here who ignores impolite takers.

 

I agree with Olly; I have met some lovely folks through freecycle, and made a few friends too. For instance, the couple who have an allotment and take all my excess chicken manure when the composters are full. They supply me with fresh veg in season. 8)

Just because he's first to respond, it doesn't give him an automatic right to the item. We're encouraged not to necessarily choose the first person, but to wait. We also have an option on our local freecycle (well, freegle now) to add a standard paragraph which includes words to say that we are going to wait before making a decision to give people on the Daily Digest an opportunity to respond. I always do this, because I''m amazed at the number of people who respond immediately.

Oh I was only thinking of the prospective purchaser getting embroiled in a dispute for faulty disks not the seller :lol:

 

I wish our group was better policed but they only seem to tell off people who make more than one offer in a 24hr period without combining them in one email :roll:

 

My personal policy is to never give the item to the first person to ask unless they are the only person to ask :lol:

If you can help with any of the following it would be appreciated, can collect in the local area.

 

*Rugs, all shapes, sizes and colours

*Thermal curtain lining (or lined curtains that I can remove the lining from and re-use)

*Door curtains

*Ordnance Survey map that covers the Southam area

*Microwave

*Cylinder Vacuum cleaner, a pet one would be fab

*Calor Gas Heater (preferably with bottle)

*Deep fat fryer

*Wood suitable for a log burner

*Freeview recorder

WANTED: Bike rack or car (ford focus)

Fri Mar 28, 2014 3:44 am (PDT) .

Would anybody have one they no longer use? My kids have moved on to big

bikes and I have down sized my car. Would love to see them cycle round

Of course they had just missed of an "f". It should have said "Bike rack for car (ford focus)"
