Charlottechicken
Just had to put the heating on It's not that cold but the constant drizzle and now several loads of washing to dry, I think it will be cheaper to heat the house than tumble dry the clothes!! Olly
you need a heated airer, Charlottechicken!
Angie
Yes a Lakeland one. I have a 3 tier and it is brilliant. I throw an old mattress protector over the top to keep the heat and steam in, they're brilliant and cheap to run. Glad to say heating has not come on today but I have been cold. According to the press we are in for a really bad winter.
charly1979
Still managing to keep mine off, but have lit the log burner and I am thinking I need more wood and an axe to break up all the fence panels we no longer need ! I did put the under floor heating on in the kitchen because it was like a fridge in there and hubby spends most his evening in the garden room next to it, even he has been feeling the cold I have caught him huddled under a blanket. Shame they don't make the Eglus bigger as the warmth from my Clarabel would be enough to keep me warm, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm wonder if I can make her a temporary house chicken/hot water bottle (I would have to pretend to be an egg though !) I am hoping the reports of a cold winter and snow etc in November are wrong !
The Dogmother
Had the heating on yesterday as my folks were up and the oldsters feel the cold. It is back now to 15 mins morning and evening. Charly1979, I cut my fence panels up with the chain saw - clamp two together in the Workmate and then saw down through them - takes next to no time, but they're only really fit for kindling. charly1979
DM Thanks yes your right ours will only be for kindling don't think I trust myself with a chainsaw especially as recently I have been quite distracted . I have noticed we have been acquiring lots of blankets and I think I may be bringing a duvet down to cuddle under I was also told by a cashier in Primark (so of course it has to be true!!) its meant to be getting warmer by the end of the week ??? The Dogmother
I heard that too (about it getting milder) but it won't last. It has struggled up to 17deg in my office, despite having the poxy heater on Raining on and off, 10.8deg outside.
Alis girls
Winter duvet on and slept better - I thought being a lady of a certain age I would sweat under it - but roasty toasty - Probably was cold so could explain why sleeping better. And I thought it was my age
Lavenders_Blue
I'm still stubbornly holding out... But as I was wearing two jumpers and a pair of thick socks in the house yesterday, I don't think it will be long until I give in and put it on. Goosey Lucy
Ours has gone on today. But only as background heat. The wind is freezing.

Well just to update - I went out to agility training with Tango this evening. It would seem hubby took it upon himself to switch on the heating while I was out as the house was roasting when I got back!
Charlottechicken
Ooh, sneaky! No heating on here tonight, woodburner is on as it is wet and dark out. I do have the heating set to come on first thing though for about 90 minutes (on low), then it's thick socks and fleeces if required
chickencam
We turned ours off in the office today, it was sweltering.
Angie
The heating is ON and I have got the app on my phone and laptop so I can control remotely.( as new boiler in May is Worcester bosch and is the wireless control) I have got to grips with the settings and daily weekly schedules and it is running fine. I may be a little behind others, but my house is fairly new and has good insulation , but it has to go on when even in wollies and thermal socks one is cold, so I pressed the switch so to speak at the weekend and I am sorted. This will be it now till warmer days appear on the distant horizon.
bluekarin
I am heating my house using these http://www.permaculture.co.uk/videos/heat-your-room-8-pence-day Today is the first time using them and boy does it keep the chill out of the air! We do have electric heaters which are on min so kick in when it gets too cold. However last night my son, after letting the cat out of the front door, forgot to shut said door properly and it was open all night! Thankfully on a safety chain and with a curtain in front to stop it looking so obvious. Thankfully we don't have too many burglaries in our area otherwise we might have woken up to a missing dog (she has her bed in a crate type thing in the hall near the from door) amongst other things
Groovychook
I am heating my house using these http://www.permaculture.co.uk/videos/heat-your-room-8-pence-day I use that method to heat my greenhouse in the winter- hadn't thought of trying it inside the house! Pleased to hear that nothing untoward happened last night...
chickencam
Beware of the fumes from the tea lights. I will however use this method when I have seedlings in my greenhouse in the spring.
