soapdragon
If I was back in Michigan right now I too would be complaining about the cold but now that I am in Dodge City, Kansas I am still nice and warm, it was 92 degrees here yesterday. The rest of the week it is supposed to be in the high 70's and mid 80's. My SIL tells me it will be this way till mid October. Well, rub it in, why don't you! Just off to get buffeted by gale force winds, soaked through and cold on the school run!
Lavenders_Blue
I took a hot water bottle to bed last night
The Dogmother
*ahem* I wore bed socks I heard on the radio this morning that snow is due in the Cairngorms.... surely not?!
Lavenders_Blue
Well I wasn't going to admit to that, but I've had bedsocks on for a couple of weeks I can't stand being cold in bed!
The Dogmother
Nor me - I piled another cat on top of my feet but that wasn't enough.
redhotchick
Nor me - I piled another cat on top of my feet but that wasn't enough. . My one cat can't keep up with demand! I've had the heating on for 45 minutes every morning since early September. My OH turns the heating on when he gets in around 5, and I turn it off when I get in, an hour or two later. Alis girls
Another fan of cat central heating here - one on either side to weigh duvet down and one on the feet. Sadly they tend to go "wandabout" at 4am and demand food and a door opener so OH has decided its a no-no. hes hates the 4am cat exit
LolaLayla
Still not put the heating on! During the day a poodle on the lap is a cosy option At night OT has to put up with the cold feet The gillet is out the wardrobe....we probably won't be separated until next April
Charlottechicken
Well, it's gone warm here now No heating for the last couple of days and yesterday I lit the woodburner at about 3pm and fed it small logs until 7.30, it was still a bit warm!
chickencam
Yes I only lit our log burner for an hour or so last night just to take the chill off and I was too warm when I went to bed. Could by my senior female heating though.
Lavenders_Blue
I was quite warm yesterday too, in fact it was such a mini heat wave that the tortoise woke up from his semi hibernation and galloped round the garden like it was a midsummer day! I put fluffy socks on in bed last night and got too hot, so kicked them off. I'm hoping I can last at least to the end of the month without heating. charly1979
We had our heating bill through and the bleeps have put our payments up even though we are in credit (waiting for OH to change companies) Anyway I have told the kids we will have to tough it out this year as I shall not be putting the main heating on till December just out of principle luckily we have a log burner and loads of fleecy blankets.... I shall also put all our windows to the vented position to try and climatise us ................ having said all that I can pretty much bet my life savings on the fact I will break and have the heating on my November (maybe sooner)
Lavenders_Blue
Just wondering if folks are aware of the Money Saving Expert Cheap Energy Club? You sign up, put in your annual energy consumption, current tariff and then you receive an e-mail every month telling you whether or not you're on the cheapest tariff (and what the cheapest tariff is if you're not on it). It's really good!
Angie
Day 4 of new kitchen going in and the back doors are open for the work men or man atm . Does it count that I will have to put mine on at 4pm today to warm the house up tonight as I am so very cold now , and the men will have gone home ? ( haven't needed it on all week but today is freezing. ) They might have to come back tomorrow to finish off......I hope it will be a warmer day tomorrow. Goosey Lucy
Still not had ours on yet but we have had a fire lit at the weekend. I think this weekend might see me putting the heating on though - OH is coming home from Oman where it's currently 32 degrees
LolaLayla
Put it on last weekend as we had friends visiting and haven't put it off. The weather has turned colder so I think that's it on for the winter now!
The Dogmother
I put mine on this morning as it was just 5deg and bitterly cold. Stove will be lit as soon as I'm home, so the heating will clock off then.
Charlottechicken
Had my heating on the other night for a couple of hours, not on in the mornings yet but will be soon I think. Have lots of lovely gifted wood for the woodburner so will light that tonight. One cosy room in the house seems to make the unheated ones more bearable! It certainly felt like autumn this morning! The Dogmother
Claire, if you can get hold of a large van or trailer, then I know of someone near me who needs to 'rehome' a load of pallets - free firewood!
Charlottechicken
Clare, I am actually up to my eyebrows and beyond at present! Awful to turn wood down but my new source is pretty constant at present and without dipping into my (ample) stocks I am given more wood every week than I can burn over three long evenings at the weekend. I presently have it stocked up in the woodburner room as it is bone dry and I have no more storage space outside! Lovely wood too, like carpenter's offcuts, burns really well. The Dogmother
me too - I have enough for 2 winters I have wood scavenged from people/skips, pallets from a man who has a tiling business and wood from the carpenter at work.
chickencam
We lit the wood burner last night and it is burning away merrily again tonight It is a good test for our new double glazing now to see how warm the house stays with no other heating. Olly
The significant thing for me isn't so much turning the heating on as closing the cat flap! Claudette is both dim and very aggressive, and she is the only cat I have ever owned who can't be trained to use a cat-flap. She's perfectly able to use it, both in and out, but only if there's an incentive such as a roast chicken or a strange cat that's been rude to her on the 'other' side of the flap. In summer it's pegged open, but I think it's getting too chilly for that now. I'll have to reinstate the litter tray for winter.
The Dogmother
I have a daft cat who 'can' use the flap but is too scared/dim to do so. She chooses to come in when we open the front door; if I don't open it then she stays outside in the neighbour's greenhouse I have closed the kitchen window now, it is cool in there anyway due to the stone flooring and lack of heating. I still have the bedroom windows open a bit though and don't close them until it's well below freezing. The heating only comes on morning and evening for half an hour and is set to 19deg. The stove is roaring away though, and I recently opened up the cast iron fireplaces in two of the bedrooms, so I can have open fires in there when I have had the sweep out. Angie
Oh Gooseylucy. My OH has just gone out to OMAN, what a coincidence. Bitter cold here today and the heating came on automatically, thanks to the doors being open. But the job is done and I have been putting my things back in the new cupboards. Not in any sort of order, just wanting to get a kitchen back to normal. So the heating is on again and the house really is cold, I don't think it will warm up quickly as I think it has chilled the house right through , and me.( wore thermals today.)
