OK, who has the heating on now?

 

I confess to having a few blasts during the week, under the premise of testing it out of course! Genuinely, the first time it was on for an hour just to test it out, but the following time I did it to take the chill off. From yesterday we have had the woodburner going, and I will light it again today, but am hoping not to have central heating on until October!

 

Following on from all that hot weather though, it now feels really chilly!

Yes, we have since we went back to school, heating is set to 18c and it has come on first thing and evening. Can't stand being cold.

I put it on briefly the other evening to dry the dog out as she got soaked during her walk. She didn't want to go on said walk, so I thought it only fair. But it wasn't because it was cold, it was quite humid. Might be going on today though brr!

I've not put mine on yet - I've managed so far with some thick socks, a woolly blanket and a dog on my lap to keep me warm.

 

But I don't think it will be long before I give in.

Its always been a bit of a joke with us as to how long we can sit it out - made it through to mid November one year

 

However, now we have the boys that's not really fair! Still I'm hoping we can get to the end of September but its the mornings that are the worst! Storms are forecast for the next few days but I didn't look at the temps.......when the boys are at school tomorrow I will be doing the wardrobe swap; putting away the summer stuff and getting the sweats, jumpers, cords and fleeces down. Also planning on getting the thick winter duvet to the launderette

Not put it on yet but I am about to bring out the jumpers. I remember when there was ice on the inside of our windows many, many, many years ago when I was little. That was cold The patterns made by the ice were so beautiful

I have worn socks though, which I haven't done all summer.

Lit the wood burner in the living room last night. We were too warm and let it go out after an hour. We are in the process of taking out the storage heaters in the living room and the kitchen. These rooms will be heated by wood burners and the heat from these will warm up the hallways and stairs. We have no form of heating in the bath room at the moment and I am not sure how this room will be heated . Bedrooms are heated by panel heaters which come on for half an hour in the morning and the evening but not yet.

We lit the wood burner for the first time last night, it was lovely to hear it crackle and to feel cosy. it will probably be lit again later.

 

We had our windows and doors replaced earlier in the week with lovely thick double glazing and it is so much warmer and quieter too, we live by a busy main road. It was freezing on Monday when all of the upstairs windows were out. The heat from last night has stayed well though.

 

There will no central heating for a good while yet.

Not yet although we have been lighting fires in the evening, and there is one on the go now. Blooming freezing here in Sheffield though.

I normally try to hold out till November but I put it on (just an hour morning and evening) yesterday as I have my sister and her husband staying this weekend. I'm not cold but I knew my sister would be shivering the minute she walked in.

 

Tempted to turn it off again but as I'm not able to move around easily due to a knee injury, I might leave it on - BIL lit the woodburner yesterday but as I can't carry wood whilst on crutches, that's not really an option once they've gone home. I'll just snuggle under my Slanket.

Not here yet either, although I sneaked the heater on at work the other day as it is just always so cold in my office.

 

The log burner is roaring away at home, and heating all the house up nicely. I have the lighter of my two winter duvets on the bed now, and an old quilt to pull up if I feel cold.

 

If it keeps up like this, the dogs will soon be in their winter coats to go out.

Ooh yes, more wintery bedding now on the bed. Brushed cotton sheets, fleecy fitted undersheet, and furry throw over the top of Summer duvet, toasty!!

We've been lighting the woodburners on and off for over a week but yesterday we had them both alight and then spent the day making pickles. The house was lovely and toasty with a strong spiced vinegar smell .

We came back from 2 weeks in Spain last night where it was 30 degrees. It got colder and wetter over the weekend as we drove up through France and we had a gale in the channel delaying us for 2 hours as the ferry couldn't dock. So yes, we put the heating on as soon as we got back at about midnight. At least it's sunny today although freeeeezing... I suppose I'll get used to it..

have to say I was hoping with the menopause to be hot this winter - so far my hot flushes seem to have been in the summer and we did put the heating on last Thursday morning to take chill off. Each morning throw on my dressing gown to make tea. the cats congregate on the bed so I let them warm it up before OH who hates a catty bed puts them downstairs. They do leave a nice warm patch.

Horrified to say Me.. I had a new boiler installed in May and I haven't quite got to grips with the programming, so the Auto pre-set programme came on yesterday around lunch time , it took me a while to realise it was on as it was freezing outside and indoors I was stripping my cardi off, I hadn't even heard the boiler come on, so much quieter than the old one.

It came on on the auto setting and it took me half a dozen attempts through the day to get it to stop .

It came on again this morning. So I had to change the timing and the temp setting to stop it. I got there in the end.

It is off .

But it just goes to show how Cold it is atm.

I think the problem is that it got cold very suddenly; last Friday I was chilly in 3 layers, the preceding Friday I'd been in shorts and a t shirt!

i agree - one week its hotter than the Med then it plummets. I am trying not to put it on - use cat heating where poss - I can see why people wear fur - so toasty - mmmmmm.

The menopause does have its benefits, still in T shirts I havn't had a duvet on the bed for at least 3 years just a bedspread luckily DH dosen't feel the cold however won't be long before DD's start moaning about the cold

OH has been moaning about the cold for over a week now Although when I lit the woodburner over the weekend he was soon complaining that it was too warm I've had the heating on for a couple of hours this evening as it is so wet out. It is off now. OH is at work so will not benefit

 

I've also changed to the winter duvets this evening too, the summer one with a throw just wasn't cutting it

If I was back in Michigan right now I too would be complaining about the cold but now that I am in Dodge City, Kansas I am still nice and warm, it was 92 degrees here yesterday. The rest of the week it is supposed to be in the high 70's and mid 80's. My SIL tells me it will be this way till mid October.

We now have heating (plumber finished late last week- not had any heating all summer, inc water) and chimney was swept last week so have had a few open fires this week- suddenly v cold!
