Chortle Chook
Two more nights to go . . . . and then I'll have 2 more Polands to add to my motley crew: a Chamois and a Gold Laced. I'm gonna call the gold laced one 'Dora' and the Chamois one 'Dorothy'. So excited. Can't wait. And to make it all just perfect I'm gonna meet up with two fellow Omleteers to see their chickens . . . and a daxy too. Chortle Chook
I'm nuts with excitment. Pet carrier is all ready now and current set of chickens all cleaned out and lectured about best behaviour and kind consideration to newbies and little uns. Just got to walk my dogs and then we're off. . . too excited to eat breakfast so I'll be looking forward to that cake . We've got something to bring too I'll take some pix Daxigirl though only got my mobile phone, and we can then sort out which ones to load on here
Chortle Chook
What a happy afternoon we had. Thought you might like some pictures Here is one of Daxigirl's dear little dogs - a real sausage dog (she had another daxy too and a very sweet whippet - I could have taken them all home. I now madly covet a daxy ) Here are Leanne's (Miller) baby lemon Pekins. Aren't they just so cute. and those Russian Orloffs that I covet - Note, Daxigirl's outfit has grass Now these are the chickens I got from Hamble Valley. They are both very pretty, but not having been bred by Rachel a little bit of TLC is required over the next few days. This lovely lady is Dora the gold laced Poland And this one is Dorothy . . . bit worried, she might be a he but if he / she crows Rachel will take him back and I'll do a swap for something like a little blue Silkie And lastly here they are settling in (well settling into the undergrowth) in their new free range home. Poor Dorothy had been pecked a bit on his/her head while in Rachel's holding pen, but there are little new feathers springing up and we put anti peck spray on. Hope that is not too many pictures for you, but it was such a nice day out!

Chortle Chook
My new girls do have pretty markings and will, I think, be beautiful but at the mo they are bearing the scars of being bullied by some Pekins they were in with. The Pekins were a lot smaller but Polands are such softies. The least little bit of bullying and they do a sort of ostritch act; just hunching up and putting their vulnerable heads down for a pecking. I just hope that the Chamois one is not a boy It can be hard to tell but there is something not quite 'right' about her head gear. On the girls, the head gear should make a nice round bawble, a bit like a 50s gal under one of those old fashioned hair driers. On the boys you get sort of punky bits hanging down on either side. If you look at her / him here you can see why I'm anxious. The only thing is that she / he has been pecked quite a bit on his head and so is missing feathers which when re-grown may create the right bawble shape. For now, between me, Leanne and Daxigirl, the jury is definitely out should be moe like this (the other girly)
daxigirl
My lot look a bit scrag baggy at the minute, the Orloffs should be bushy bearded ladies. Grrrr feather peckers. I'm going for both being girlies, the chamois boys look a darker colour to me upon googling. It was lovely to meet you and Mr Chic. Bit embarrased about my cake compared to yours. Chortle Chook
Hey, your cakes were just lovely! OH kept saying, all the way back, how much he liked that lemon one. I did like those pretty little napkins - wouldn't dare use them if they were mine

PoachedPlease
Love the Russian orloffs where did you get them?
Daphne
its not possible to have too many photos Although I am notoriously bad at sexing polands, I would also be worried about the chamois - not only has it got the tell tale sprouting type headgear, its also a slightly weird colour. In my experience, the girlies normally have just the regulation colour crests. It'll be interesting to see how him/her turns out! Lovely orloffs BTW
