Frances Russell
Hi. I have had my girls a good couple of months now. I have tried various methods of making grit containers. The lady whom I bought my chickens from said you can make one out of a plastic milk bottle. This didn't work because the girls just pecked at the string and the plastic. Which caused the grit to fall out and milk bottle to fall down. Then tried the same thing with a plastic butter container. They did the same thing! I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas. And if not can anyone recommend where I can buy one from - I don't want a big grit feeder (Like the one on the omlet website) because I have only got two chickens! Any help would be kindly accepted! Thanks, Frances
Olly
I just use a basic coop cup.

good_egg
Snap as well. Pack of three from flyte so fancy - useful for all sorts if things!
Jenthelibrarian
Thirded, or fifthed or however many people have posted above me Got mine when I bought my hens for about 50p. I'll just add that if you have a Wilkinsons store near you they sell a variety of 'hook on the cage mesh'-type cups, go to their website and seach for 'Coop Cup'. We got a very useful stainless steel bowl with a sturdy holder that we use for our girlies' suppers etc. from there, washes well, hooks on the run mesh firmly, strong and totally unbreakable. You can order online for pick-up in store, they have an entire chicken section on the website, with prices better than regular garden centres/pet shops. Nopes, I don't work for them
UKMARCH
We also use the stainless hook on coop cups I have them in various sizes small for grit and bigger for snacks or for an extra food dish with mash in so they can have something to check out to keep them busy during the day. Frances Russell
Hi, Thanks for all your posts, I have just ordered a couple of coop cups! Should have asked sooner! Thanks again, Frances
mrsatroy
Coop cups are great - recentl;y got 4 new girls and they have been so handy for putting little cups of pellets around the run area. At least I know the newbies have a good chance of getting some food without being chased of by the bossy oldies!
Chortle Chook
Another vote for coop cups here too. I have a Grub/Glug but still find coop cups really useful when it comes to grit, treats, making sure newbies have some food etc. . They come in lovely colours and last and last
Chickabee
Well I've just ordered 2. Thanks for the advice
Chickabee
I have one of those large grit containers from omlet. Somehow the lid pops off? Then the girls just use the grit as a dust bath. Hence I don't use it any more. I also use dried corn mix with added grit
daisyisarobot
I have it in mini flower pots, one fits into their food trough thing and the other I have wedged in the egg box part of the Cube.
