Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I got my 6 girls in November and got my first ever egg yesterday!!!! Ridiculously happy! A small brown perfect egg which was fried and quartered between husband and 2 children.

 

Was sad this morning to find nothing waiting ....... but this afternoon I found 1 huge egg! Hurray!

 

Cant wait until there'll be enough for 1 each!

 

I'm pretty sure I know who the culprit is, she's definitely had swagger the last day or so

 

I had no idea how much pleasure these little creatures would give us!

The egg thrill never wears off - I've kept hens for years, but still feel a special pleasure in finding smooth, perfect eggs in the nestbox. Congratulations, you've waited a long time - you should be getting six eggs a day within a few weeks.

All ours stopped laying end of October, we had our first at the weekend and was so chuffed.

Eggs are wonderful especially first eggs from new chooks or after a winter break. One of mine has started to lay again.

Oooh yes, finding your first egg is lovely and all eggs after that.

I love finding the warm ones especially when I put it on my cheek to feel the warmth - hubby thinks I'm very odd when I do that - no idea why

Awww thank you all for the congrats.

 

We're still getting 1 egg per day and she's laying sometime between 11am and 2pm. I might have to have a word in her ear as I'd quite like an egg for breakfast!

The first egg is great! So is the first egg after the winter rest, we got ours on Christmas Day a perfect present! All of the eggs are special.

Congratulations, first eggs are very special So, you didn't do the egg dance I did for my girls.....just picture mad woman in garden jigging about with egg in hand!! Yes, my neighbours think I'm mad

 

Haven't done it yet this year as I've had one girl lay pretty much right through...and her sister has joined her in recent weeks....so no egg famine her this winter, very odd as they are pekins and I know as I breed them!!!!! Just waiting for the other 3 to start........then maybe an egg dance will be in order

Novelty of eggs hasn't worn off with me either - Just got the first egg from my pure breeds. They were 12 weeks old when I got them last August, so it's been a 6 month wait for this egg Hoping the other 2 join in soon.......can't wait for my first blue egg from Tinkerbell
