Update on my 6 ex bats from BHWT

Recommended Posts

Hi

You may remember that last May we rehomed 6 ex-bats from the BHWT (http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=93427)

Thought you might like an update.

Took some pics after about 1 month

4 of the 6 had few feathers on the wings

Most had bare necks

One (now called Didge - the one who was too scared to come out of the box and we thought we might lose) had a very bare and sore looking back as well

Well, Didge has put on a lot of weight and is now a very solid hen

Didge's wings and back are a lot better now

This is WooWoo (one of the smaller ones - she weighs 'nothing' when you pick her up)

This is Titch (another of the smaller 3)

She walks in a very jerky/comical manner and her legs always point in funny directions - but she seems fine - she is the only one so far to have mastered roosting on top of the eglu (so legs can't be too bad!)

This is Pippa

This is Saddie

and finally, this is (fat) Polly - she weighs (and always has) about twice what any of the other do

They all have great and different personalities - if anyone is thinking about getting some ex-bats, I thoroughly recommend it. I have made a deal with them, that I will 'pamper' them and they have to live for a least a year after adoption - fingers crossed they will survive a lot longer than that. We get 4 or 5 eggs most days from the 6 of them (even now, in February).

Well the living a year pledge isn't a bad deal :D

I've done 2 ex batt rescues and most have lived 12-18 months after.

Although the last of my last batch Zoe has now reached 2 years and 6 months.... I didn't think she would make a week as she came out of the cage with a broken wing that had set badly, she still has a disabled wing but is still one of the first to race down the garden for mealworms
