newcountrygirl
I went down to the two hen houses this morning and told my girlies that they had better decide to start laying soon (havent had any eggs since October) When I came back down the field I caught Percy Proudfoot (cockerel) and Matilda(Wyandotte bantam) indulging in a bit of hanky panky. Hope this is the start of Spring!
igobarefoot
Hehe, excellent, fingers crossed the eggs on their way! Love the name of your cockerel and the fact that you caught them 'at it'!
Luvachicken
Funny that, I told mine a similar thing today too, especially to Lucie who is lovely and red and hasn't laid an egg since she had her wobbly head ages ago
newcountrygirl
I just need some lovely fresh eggs. Hate having to buy them. All my chickens stopped laying in late October. 1 Pekin, 2 Wyandottes and 2 Polish Frizzles. You would think amongst this lot somebody would have laid an egg! Grandmashazzie
Like Percy I thought it was Spring like this morning but unlike Percy had no time for birds and bee stuff
gavclojak
From my four girls I am getting between 1-2 eggs daily and have been all through the dark times....they are ex commercial girls so o I guess that why, but I was actually hoping they would have a little break over the winter to give their lady bits a rest.....guess that's not how it works
MillyJude
Ours have started laying again in the last week, we have gone from none since September to 4/5 a day. So hopefully yours wont be far behind.

PoachedPlease
That's weird Milly, all five of my hybrids also laid today, having all gone on strike last week cos of the weather! It must be the first day of sunshine that's done it. I better start baking... X
Chickabee
I'm getting between 2 and 5 a day. Haven't been without eggs this year, 4 are pullets though. I'll probably be going mad next year. Especially if I have to buy some
newcountrygirl
I am going to read the riot act to my chickens tomorrow - I am fed up with buying eggs when I have 5 chickens. The most annoying thing is that last year i had to give one of my chickens Gladys Pugh away to my friend across the road cos she was bullying the others and she has continued to lay eggs all through the winter Grrrr! Plum
Is she sticking her tongue out at you as well? Had a word with my banties but they said they're thinking of going broody now it's looking like spring
newcountrygirl
Haha Plum - They certainly have minds of their own. Anyone who thinks that chickens are just chickens are wildly mistaken. It is lovely and sunny here in Lincolnshire so I am hoping that might put them in the mood for a spot of egg production. Oh no p-l-e-a-s-e don't mention the B word to my lot I'm worried I'll need broody towers here with my lot, if last summer is anything to go by

Let her scream My next door neighbour told mine to shut up one day so I thought next time I hear him say it, I will ask him if his wife had her babies without making any noise .............. pesky neighbours

BlueSilver
Lucy of da Henz is currently looking as if she might start taking this egg-laying lark seriously. She's been pacing back and forth in the run for the past few days, as if she was looking for something but wasn't sure what. She also gave me a classic "lie back and think of mealworms" crouch when I reached down for her yesterday - whilst also looking rather bewildered when the instinct kicked in, like someone who performs a perfect dance move on a disco floor without really knowing how they managed it (yet trying to act like it was planned at the time). I suspect I'll be hearing the operatic Hen Chorus soon, so here's hoping!
