bronze
Last night my favourite chicken died. She had been going down hill for a while and it seemed like old age. To be honest I think I was had by a not to honest breeder who sold me old chickens as pol when I was more of a novice than I am now. Anyway I now have a very lonely mini. I also have two big chicks (10 weekish) in another run. These are large fowl and pretty much the same size as Judy. Whats the earliest I could put them together? Does it go on size or would their immaturity really go against them. Judy has a bumper bit on which could stay on if it would help. Any advice? feemcg
Sorry to hear about Peggy. I have been introducing the 'babies' from about 12 weeks. The runs are adjacent to one another so they've always been able to get up close through the mesh, then I just start letting them out in the garden together during the day but keep them separate at night for a while. The last 4 have been in with the big girls for the last couple of days, they look a bit scared and get a swift peck at times but nothing too viscious that I've seen. Last night I had to usher them into their purple cube as a couple of the big girls were standing in their way and they wouldn't go past. It all seems to sort itself out gradually and even after a few weeks when they all get on fine, they still run around in their own little groups and squabble at bed-time

Snowy
Hi Bron, sorry to hear about Peggy - you have had bad luck with your girls haven't you I put two 12 week olds in with Bella the Campine. She is quite small and they were a fraction smaller than her at the time. Despite a bit of bossing they are all fine together, and they very quickly outgrew her - but she's still the boss! Richard
Aww Bron, that's really sad. I still haven't put mine together. The new girls, all at around 11 weeks, are together in the big run in the Cube. Georgina is in her eglu and free ranging round the garden. She spends most of her time at the run gate watching the newbies. I'm quite happy with this arrangement and was going to wait a while yet.
