Rosalie
I am getting my 8 week old hens tomorrow, when should I worm them and what is the best thing to use, thankyou
Beantree
I don't know the earliest you can worm them, but we do our Pedigrees at 20 weeks, so well before they start to lay. Flubenvet is the only effective wormer I know and it is easiest administered in the premixed layers pellets made by Marriages. Your pullets can go onto layers pellets at 18 weeks. They will start on rearer/grower pellets when you get them. Best to ask which brand they are using and get that, because changing their food and their surroundings at the same time sometimes causes 'not eating' problems. Rosalie
Thankyou. Yes I have already got the food they are on so it's not too stressful for them. I've looked online for the Marriages pellets and it says it has to be authorised? Is it just a case of getting a note from the vet?
The Dogmother
I would let them settle in for a couple of weeks before worming with Flubenvet.
Beantree
That's a new one on me Rosalie? We've ordered them on line from SPR (I think) without that problem. When I've bought just the powder I just had to sign to say it was for treating the chickens and leave my address.

All that means is they may call you or email you to confirm how many hens you have and how to use it etc etc. it' really is the only effective wormer. Also remember to give no treats at all during the worming cycle and restrict free ranging.

Guest
farmandpet place are brilliant, order from them then you will get a phone call giving you advice on using the wormer. I love this company, I can't fault their customer service and I am VERY difficult to please

mullethunter
Sorry to bring up a question that has probably been asked and answered a million times. My girls are having their first lot of Marriages worming feed starting today. Can they come out into the garden at all, or should I keep them in their Eglu run for the whole time? The Dogmother
I'd keep them in the run for the whole week if at all possible.
mullethunter
It is possible and I know it's for their own good - I just feel mean On the plus side, it'll give the small patch of 'grass' a bit of a breather!
