Oh no...........!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

It's only 19 weeks to Christmas and I've just realised that I should have put the sprouts on 3 weeks ago if I want them to be properly cooked in time :shock::roll::roll::D:D:wink::wink:

Sorry to mention the C word but not only did I receive an Xmas card catalogue in the post this morning and it's not the first i received either :roll: but I had to pop into a large supermarket this morning

(not my usual one as I shop at waitrose but they had sold out of jam sugar and although they kindly informed me that more would be in on Wednesday, I had 2kg of rhubarb at home waiting to turn into jam this morning so i had to pop into tesco  ...........i've digressed :oops:....... )

and the seasonal aisle had hints of christmas about it :shock::shock:

noooooooooooooooo :!::!::!::!: It's August, only August

When I was training as a manager for Scottish and Newcastle, I had to do a christmas and New Year in a popular Restuarant and Function Centre - Every day of December was filled with 4 separate party functions and also Christmas lunches and dinners in the resturant - all fair enough, given the reputation the place had for great Christmas "do's", and I guess you had to expect the fortnight of 'Late Christmas' parties after New Year, but I was horrified to find that, at the first managers meeting after the end of the Christmas parties, the only thing on the agenda was planning for the next Christmas.......

Nowadays, I can always tell when Christmas is coming, because The X-Factor starts! It always has to finish just in time for the winner to nab the Christmas No1!

My sprouts are in, the raspberry vodka for the hampers is looking good, and I already have 2 bags of stocking fillers on the go for the children :D

I got a Christmas catalogue a few weeks ago (I recylcled it without looking at it).

As far as I am concerned as soon as the kids go back its open season

I love Christmas, & it can't come soon enough 8)8)8)

I am thinking of making my Christmas cake, but that's fine because I can then just forget about it.

I always buy my first Christmas presents at the beginning of May when I go to the Christian Resources Exhibition. I get 10% off there and no p+p. :D:D and I am very grateful later in the year when that's one less thing to do. :D

I haven't chosen the music for our Advent and Christmas Carol services yet :( Usually I do that in July but I'm feeling uninspired. :(:(

I don't get excited or bothered about Christmas, but it is always good to get ahead if you can!

I wish I'd thought of growing sprouts. Are they difficult?

Don't get me wrong...........I love Christmas but just not this early.

Having said that I've just finished making my rhubarb and ginger jam very yummy :D:D:drool::drool: first time I've ever made jam 8)8) and have put some in 'pretty jars' to give as christmas pressies

and I did buy some BHWT bags and Keyrings at Jimmy's last week (saved on the p&p getting them from Buffie rather than ordering online nearer the time)

I just feel that christmas is getting more and more comercialised (sp?) and this year I have decided to try to give only ethical or homemade gifts (chutney and mincemeat on the list to make in september and october) to friends and family. Ollie and Charlie will probably be the only exception as I can't make a WOW expansion pack :wink:

i was thinking about christmas today!! how weird!!

i love christmas and now i have children its even better. i think they will really appreciate it this year. hubbie hates christmas and moans when i start to put the decorations up in september (only joking!!!, 1st december)

i usually buy a big real tree as hubbie hates plastic trees which would have been the better option. last year however i bought one grown in a pot, its not the biggest tree in the world but it is still alive in the garden in a huge pot waiting to come in again. i hope it will last about five years until it will be too big to get in and then it will be planted in the mill garden.

i have even been thinking about getting a turkey to fatten but i am unsure about the mess and i would have to get a dreaded wooden hutch as i dont think it would fit in an eglu. i would also have a problem when it came to its final day as i would be so attached. we lost one of our polands today and i am quite upset and i have only had them a week.

it is getting earlier and earlier, the christmas things in the shops. i do start buying gifts this early though and i usually have everything by october.

at least this year we will have more than one light bulb in the house working and we will have all the windows in as last year all the top floor back windows were black sacks. and the main oven was broken so i had to use the tiny top oven, i have a lovely smeg range oven now, great for roast dinners!

this year we will be having an extension built on the back but hopefully that wont make too much mess!!!

my little boy planted the sprouts and i am not sure where they are :oops:

i have never managed a sucessful harvest anyway and always end up in m&s last minute.

Hillfamily, the Alternative Gift Catalogue is a good one, I've asked for stuff from there for a few years now when people ask what I want. I also bought our road a gift from there with money we raised from a Father Christmas thingy I organise. Last year I think I got a mosquito net, a goat, a big bag of nails and an eye operation!! 8) I buy for my mum from there as well, the kids still get an overdose of sweets and toys I'm afraid - commercial yes but it's so magical seeing their faces opening everything!

Jingle bells, jingle bells....... :whistle::dance::clap:

I buy virtual gifts for adults from the St Lukes Hospice catalogue. I also buy all my Christmas cards there.

It is a wonderful place . My Dad died there and the care he received was second to none so I am very keen to support the marvellous work they do.

Any other Sheffielders....why not have a look a bit nearer the time.

...Here... is a link to their webite which is updated regularly.

My chooks went to bed at 8.45pm last night, that's a sign that Autumn is round the corner. It won't be long til they tootle off to bed at 4pm!

I'm really fed up today as it is chucking it down & really miserable. So I might get the jam pan out & my sewing machine & rustle up some gifts for Xmas. May have to just start off some of that raspberry vodka too!

I made a beaded ring yesterday which is quite pretty, need to make a few more & put them in pretty boxes as presents. I also want to get a bit handy with hubby's jigsaw & make some chicken shaped spike things to go in Plant pots. Brighten the garden up in winter!

Any other home made or handmade ideas????

Gosh so much going on at the moment, I daren't even think of Xmas. Got my cube to complete, new chickens to get. Bantams for the old MK2 eglu to get. My sisters bantams due to hatch Bank Holiday weekend. Then we have a slight gap until my birthday, which we are going Normandy for, then it's hubby's birthday a week later, then Xmas....then February it's off to Thailand! Phew!
