Idea for Go-Up Shelter

Recommended Posts

Wondered whether someone might find my husband's genius idea for a proper shelter underneath the Eglu Go-Up, useful. It's made of perspex, which he cut to size, and attached with easily removeable cable ties. We did 2 sides in green and 1 side transparent. Hens were very happy to use it this evening when it rained!

It fits perfectly on a Go-Up without run, Cat Tails. (My other Go-up, which you can see in the background in the first pic, has a run attached. I've fitted three of the cube wind-covers round the back of the run, which you might be able to see in the pic. This was easy enough to attach to the run with bungee hooks.)

The problem was providing a shelter for the runless Go-up, as there was nothing to attach the bungee hooks to!

If you've got a run, the cube wind-covers will probably be easiest for you.

Thanks mullethunter! I've just got to merge them, now, with my five growers, who are now 15 weeks and 13 weeks, living in a classic in the garden. Am going to wait another 5 weeks and then put the youngsters in the rear Go-Up. After a week or so I'm hoping that they'll all FR happily together. (They've all been looking at each other through the garden mesh for several weeks now, so aren't exactly strangers.) Wish me luck!! :)

I was lucky that I got quite a few sheets from work (ordered in error when a major refit was going on). The ones I had to buy were quite expensive. I can't remember now how much I spent but they'll last for ever - the expensive tarp I bought barely lasted 2 winters!

Found this thread which might be useful. I got the panels from Trent Plastics.

Pixiedust, here's the price for the Go-Up shelter. (Obviously you'd have to scale it up massively for WIR, but I thought the details might be useful to give an idea, and also for other Go-Uppers.

Cost: £40, from www.theplasticpeople.co.uk

There's a choice of colours, including transparent. Ask them to cut each of the 2 side panels 755 by 500mm. The rear panel needs to be 990 by 460mm. They need to make an isosceles trapezoid (!) of the rear panel by making the top measurement 725mm (There's a facility to make a sketch online when ordering.) The rear panel will then fit the rear of the Up base perfectly.
