pinkkat
I thought chickens ate slugs, but I guess my ex-batts don't know that. When I got home from work yesterday there was a massive slug in the run munching happily on the poo stuck to Posey's foot, while she had her entire head buried in the grub! Unfortunately mine won't eat them either and they are not ex batts!!!! I can't stand the damn things so try at every opportunity to point them and snails in the direction of pecking beaks, but to no avail! Worms - now that's another story .............. Edge Wife
It's really funny you should post this: ours have been finding absolutely massive slugs in the garden and having a field day. They have become something of a delicacy. i think you should be glad they don't eat them after what I witnessecd last night: they burst them with their beaks so that the insides are on the outside, then they run round the garden with them, then tbhey break them up itno bits and swallow them. It was NOT PRETTY! One day they might get the taste for them, then you'll be sorry
Snowy
They don't know what to do with them - you have to teach them. Stomp on the slug/snail or cut it in half and point their beaks at it. Once you've done this a couple of times, they learn how to pop them on their own Have fun!
Laura & CTB
Have fun! Fun? Fun? how in the world can cutting up slugs be fun Snowy????? Sometimes I worry about you
The Dogmother
Laura, just wait until you talk to Lesley... she loves cutting up slugs. Mine won't touch them, but AMO's girls did when they stayed with me.. I let them out in the afternoon and they went on slug patrol round the garden. arowland17
ours used to pop them and eat them when we first got them, and if they find a snail they quite like smashing up the shell and eating them although with the weather of the last few days there are soooo many slugs in our garden and in the run I think they've gone off them or had too many!! they don't seem to be eating them all up like I'd hoped they would! Egluntyne
Mine aren't keen on the big chewy ones, but they love the little ones, and they go mad for snails.

Egluntyne
Be warned....if you cut a slug in half masses of grey entrails ooze out. It is most alarming.....
Snowy
I have to own up - I am all talk. There is no way I could stomp on or cut up a slug. I really would be sick. But I happily squash snails for them. Florrie is the star slug buster - the first time I saw them with one of the big fat ones, only Florrie would tackle it. She pops them herself and the others hover like vultures in the hope she'll leave them some!
chelsea
Ours fight over worms & snails, but won't touch a slug ditto with our girls.
The Pearsons
Mine love slugs - any size. Toast always wipes her beak very carefully afterwards though Actually Toast wipes here neak after she eats anything slightly moist. Like an old lady dabbing at her lips with a napkin after eating Helen in Hume
Sue and the Spice Girls
My girls eat slugs with gusto....and I caught Cinnamon eating a frog today!
Chicken Licken
Mine won't touch them I'm afraid (and as I have slug phobia I am quite glad). Fortunately Rosie (dog) has not rolled in a slug for a while - it causes me a great distress that she is oblivious to!
