Chickabee
I know I'm loopy . Poor Matilda lost her fight for life last night, after showing encouraging signs of perkiness and eating yesterday. I went out to get a replacement cream legbar for her sister, Hetty. Sadly they didn't have any, but I came home with a Jasmine which looks a bit like Matilda, and a copper black Marans. She is just beautiful. Now names . Does anyone know what makes up a Jasmine, I know it's part CLB, but can't find any info about what they're crossed with Edited December 23, 2014 by Guest
Luvachicken
Not loopy at all Morehens is rife when winter immunity is low. Can't help with your questions though, sorry, but would love to see some pics.

mullethunter
I wanted to get 2 for my mum for Christmas (she's only got two left) but I couldn't get the logistics to work (I would've had to keep them in a cat box for a day and didn't want to do that ). I'm going to do it for her birthday in mid-January because I'll be able to pick a couple of girls up take them straight over to her - in a wrapped up box

Redwing
I've no idea what goes in to a Skyline but would hazard a guess at a utility Leghorn or possibly light Sussex maybe Be careful with the Marans legs in winter as feathery legs can get clogged with mud
Beantree
Interesting comment about Marans legs Redwing. The French and European breed standards specify feathered feet/legs, but the UK breed standard specifies featherless legs. I was reading about it recently after puzzling over the difference in photos I've seen.
Chickabee
Mines got feathered legs. I'll get picture when I can. You've reminded me to check for mud balls on toes too
PixieDust
Are they hybrids? Some Black Copper Maran hybrids have leg feathers. It's usually the pure bred French that have leg feathers and not the English ones.
Chickabee
I think she is a hybrid. The place I got them said they don't sell pure breeds at this time of year. i don't mind though, i was just struck by how beautiful she is

Chickabee
Yes. The place where I got them has a very good reputation. They do holiday lets and have Brahmas roaming around. Nice place and nice people. Chickens a bit dearer than buying privately, but "Ooops, word censored!"ody is selling in December
