Last of the Turkey

Recommended Posts

Turkey butties on Boxing day. Can't beat some oatmeal bread, mayonnaise and iceberg lettuce for a bit of a fresher taste, plus various other butties along the way.

Carcass stripped down and stock made.

Last night was turkey, ham and leek pie made with some of the stock and some creme fraiche for the sauce.

Turkey soup for lunch after a walk, still some stock left which has gone in the freezer.

Scraggly bits of meat that were left have been minced and made into biscuits for the dogs.

I do love getting my moneys worth!

Opposite in our house

We love turkey curry, I will make that tonight, stock is already made and in the freezer. That will be the last of the turkey meat.

My curry is far from a traditional recipe, it was a recipe I found as a teenager and used to cook for my mum and dad who liked good traditional cooking, meat and 2 veg :D Curry was very exotic in those days :D

DS loves the curry and is very sad that he doesn't live at home and misses out :D

Stilton soup tomorrow with some of the turnkey stock and some of the Stilton.

My mom and I both had a leg as a post Christmas dinner and my mom usually makes a ragout from any leftovers, but most of the turkey was eaten at Christmas, so she just had the last bits as dinner.

At a 4 kg turkey it was a good dinner for 5 people at Christmas.

Making a stock of the bones is a good idea by the way! Never thought of that!
