gavclojak
My top girl Alana came out this morning, took a grape from me but then tucked herself under the cube, I went out a few hours later and she was still there. Not good I thought so brought her in tucked in a ventilated box with some food and water and popped her in the spare room where it's warm and dark and quiet. I have checked on her and tried to tempter but she isn't intereste in, worms, tuna, cat food:( She doesn't seem steady on her feet but TBH that's normal for her. I have kept her inside and will see what tomorrow brings. She is just over three years old, a hard working ex cage fighter. She has been out of the colony for longer than she was in so please cross your fingers for her

Chickabee
Oh, mine are crossed. Perhaps she's fed up with the rain
gavclojak
Thanks chrissie, maybe chickabee but I have a nasty feeling it's not going to be a good outcome. The difficulty comes tomorrow, I am out all day doing a BHWT rehoming.
Chickabee
Have you given her some nutri drops? Sometimes they just give them that little boost to start eating

redsunset
So sorry to read of your poorly girl. An age of three for an ex cage fighter is just amazing. Any news today on how she is? Hope it's good news?
gavclojak
Thank you guys so much for taking the time to ask how my lovely alana is, unfortunately she passed away early this morning after a final cuddle, I told her she was a brave girl and she just died, no flapping or distress thank goodness, but the irony is I did a BHWT colony rehoming today and took 1,500 lucky girls to be rehomed and my poor girl had just lost her life as so many of her sisters were starting their new lives. Sleep tight alana, give princess layer and merryweather a kiss for me:(
Purplemaniacs
Sorry to hear that, I did fear it would be sad news. It is rather ironic but think of how lucky your girl was she had a lovely life of freedom with you. Some of those chooks that you have helped to re-home today may be as lucky as Alana and find a fantastic new home to start the second part of their life. gavclojak
Thanks Paula, it went really well, at one point we were 80 hens over but those lovely rehomers stepped up and took the extras!

sparkysmum
Sad to hear this. What a fab life she had with you tho' Great that your rehoming went well. Twas last Feb that we got our newest ex batts. Fabulous, characterful ladies who always want to be with you. redsunset
Sorry you lost your girl, had a feeling.... She went very peacefully after a very happy life in the tropics of London, eating goodies that an ex bat had never seen the like off and a mum who fussed over her if she so much as sneezed! Glad the re homing went well, what satisfaction watching them all go off in wonderment to all corners to start 'living'
gavclojak
Thanks everyone, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness, she did do well bless her, three years old for an ex-commercial girl is ok I guess but you always wish they had longer. I know you guys know exactly how I feel. I still get emotional when I see the girls go off to there new home. I think when I stop feeling emotional that's when I will stop, it's amazing to see people's reaction when they first see there new girls. It restores my faith I just want to say a big high five for my wonderful OH who gets up early, drives me to the farm which is usually about an hour and a half drive away, gets involved in the rehoming and does the "Ooops, word censored!"py jobs "Ooops, word censored!"ody else wants to do, like pressure washing filthy crates and road management at rehoming. He gives up his day off work and his football all to indulge me as hens are my thing, not his. Love you Hun!
