Groovychook
I'm looking to get a pair of headphones to use mainly with a relaxation app on my phone to help me doze off at night. I struggle with in your ear thingy's as my ear canals are small and they either won't stay in or are very uncomfortable. We've got a pair of large, padded headphones but although they feel comfortable to begin with, they seem to press against the cartilage of my ear and cause lots of pain. I've tried adjusting them to fit better but I always end up in discomfort. I was thinking of getting a pair of the medium sized over your ears style and wondered if anyone could recommend a comfortable pair? It sort of detracts from the point of using a relaxation aid if all I can think about is how uncomfortable my ears are!!
Cat tails
I've got a pair of Urbanears that are very comfortable. They are not pressing on my ears as much as previous headphones I used (got very prominent ears...). They are not very expensive and come in great colours! Groovychook
Thanks Cats Tails They look very nice (love the colours )and although they're much cheaper than a lot I've seen, I was hoping not to spend quite as much as that. Maybe I'm being unrealistic!
Cat tails
Are you planning to sleep with them or just relax? If just relaxing, these might be a good choice. My dad has them is still really happy with them. They are foldable, but also very light and don't press on your ears much at all. I've tried them and they are very comfortable. I remember they were around 30 euro's, but the site shows a much steeper price... Sennheiser is very good brand though. It might pay off to have a look at travel or foldable headphones. They are not as heavy and tend to not press on your ears as much.
Space Chick
I've got a lovely folding travel set of Sony ones, I'd highly recommend them.
chickencam
If you have a small head then the Sennheiser 205 II are very good. I have had two pairs, they do have tendency for the cables to break though. They are around about £30 if you shop around. I have a lovely pair of Sennheiser Momentums which my OH bought for me for Christmas, they are like wearing gloves on my ears, but they are about £200, definitely worth putting on a wish list though, they also have replaceable cables. The 205 II sound nearly as good though for a lot less money, they just aren't as comfortable and don't look as cool.
Groovychook
Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm going to do a bit of googling today
merlina
are you planning on drifting off to sleep while wearing them? are you very particular about sound quality? For some reason, I'm great at destroying headphones (bad habit of sitting on them! ). I have bought an assortment off ebay over the years, none cost more than a fiver, including delivery. None of them have been awful, some have been very good. I'm thinking if you're going to sleep with them on you might well want something inexpensive that doesn't matter if it gets a bit squished. But I'm no expert on sound quality (mostly can't tell the difference)
Groovychook
I don't necessarily want to fall asleep in them and although I'd like fairly good sound quality, it's comfort that's more important to me It concerns me that I might spend over the odds and then find I can't wear them. chickencam
It sounds like you need to go somewhere that has them out on display to try on. maplin have a few and so do places like Currys. I tried mine in in Maplin, it is worth taking an MP3 or phone with you to try out the sound quality too.
Groovychook
I think you're right. That's when living in a small town, much as I love it, has it's drawbacks. I'll have to venture out to Exeter or Truro and see what suits me best.
Luvachicken
YS suggested a speaker pillow. £18 on amazon and he said then you can't strangle yourself - which he has nearly done
Geoid
How much do you want to spend?
Groovychook
Thanks for the speaker pillow suggestion luvachicken- I'll have a look at those! How much do you want to spend? Not much! I was hoping to spend no more than £30. I know that's a relatively small amount but I don't want to go mad. I can't really justify spending any more than that. Geoid
I recommend these, £35 in the link but new they are about £100... Best sound quality ever, very comfortable, can wear them for hours and hours with ease.
Groovychook
Thanks for the link Fred Think I'm going to go and try some on first to see how comfortable they are before making a purchase, but I'll bear those in mind!
