Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I just wondered what the chickens will do when the total eclipse happens about 9.30am this coming Friday ?

For the last eclipse I didn't have chickens but did notice the birds all go quiet.

Will the chickens go back to bed ?

Will they squeeze in another load of eggs

Or will they just not bother about anything ?

Unfortunately I will be at work so won't be able to watch them but have given hubby strict instructions to watch them so he can tell me what they do.

Ooooh I loved the last one - we had a horrible sycamore in our front garden at the time, but the pinhole effect of the leaves made lots of little crescent shadow shapes all over our garage doors! Weird that it went quite cool at the same time.

I'm most likely in a bus to Trier during the eclips... Might try to convince my other collegues and the busdriver to make a small stop.

Going to be interesting to observe how they behave. The OH has a day off so we can spend time in the garden with the dog and Pobs.

From what I have just read it won't be a total eclipse unless you live in Norway. So it may only get as dark as a typical rainy day, which is a pity because I was looking forward to our chickens being quiet for a while. Now they are all laying they are getting rather noisy, the problem being quibbling over nest boxes usually.

Chooks all went running under the trees around 9.30am as they thought the mother of all rain showers was about to pelt down due to the darkness, kitchen was very dark for about 10 mins.........that was about it!

Lovely photo's.....I saw nothing, zero, zilch, nada!!! Didn't even get noticeable darker. Then this afternoon, clear blue skies.....so disappointed

I was really looking forward to seeing what the chooks did.

 

It got very slightly darker

 

The girls were all hiding under their favourite tree at the time as they seemed concerned about an especially fat wood pigeon who was eyeing up their treats

 

And then it got lighter

 

All over. Nothing to report

I was at school but OH had instructions to observe the chooks. They lined up ready to go to bed and then it got lighter and they went back to doing chickeny things.
