Henypenny
I know that this is a daft question but I think im just looking for some reassurance . After only welcoming my new chooks a few days ago, ive found out that im going to have to leave them for two days this weekend. I know that the grub and glug will hold enough food and water for the duration but what is worrying me is not shutting the cube door at night , they have already developed the routine of heading up the ladder in order at dusk and snuggling up together and I just feel so guilty about leaving them open to the elements by not shutting the door. Of course the run is totally secure so am I just worrying unnecessarily P.S I have added some more pictures of the girls in my new chooks gallery today

Laura & CTB
If your run is completely secure you have no worries - the chooks will be perfectly happy with the door open at night - mine have been doing it since April.
Christian
I work away from home a few nights per week and the eglu door is always open. If i am around and it is sub zero temps then i close the door, but if not they are perfectly happy huddled together. I'm sure yours will be fine for a night or two. BeckyBoo
Hennypenny, we went away two weeks ago for a weekend, first time we'd left the chooks. We normally shut the Eglu door at night but as my Dad was looking after them I couldn't expect him to come down at 9pm and tuck them up in bed! So the door was open and they were absolutely fine. Don't worry as long as the run is secure they'll be fine! Extra treats when you get home tho!! Mrs Bertie
chelsea
we go away for weekends. they are fine for 2 nights with plenty of food and water, and shade if its sunny!
Minky
I have my eglu door open most of the time this time of year anyway, it bothers them not a jot. I have closed it few time this week tho due to the wonderful summer weather we've been having I just came in from showing them that if they hide under the hedge the rain is blowing INTO it won't do them much good and pointed 'em in the direction of the bush next to the fence that is all nice and sheltered
Couperwife
about 2 weeks ago we tried leaving the cube door open for the girls as we are away this weekend (blenheim here we come ) we actually found that they were more settled being able to come and go as they pleased they are all wearing their own fluffy duvets, so they are pleanty warm enough. we have also put a shower curtain on the top of the run as we didnt think that the omlet cover gave enough protection (remember the rain ) so the cube door is pretty much out of the wind and rain. we havent shut it back up yet as long as the run is secure, they will be fine
beach chick
when you stroke them at bed time, just feel the heat they are generating! I'm considering chicken ho"Ooops, word censored!"er bottles this winter.... not really, but they do put off a lot of heat!
Henypenny
Thank you all, I feel alot better now, I have added a few heavy stones around the skirt of the run just to help weight it down ... its very sturdy anyway but just to make absoloutly sure
cutechicky
It is absolutely fine! I had the same problem worrying but then again, theres nothing to harm them and they are hardly going to get cold with all those feathers now are they?!
