Cat tails
Cinnamon was looking bloated again. Walking with legs apart, feeling bloated too, when I examined her. Breathing with beak open. So called the vet and they had a opening 20 min later! Took three chickens on my bicycle! Ginger happily squawking all the way... Vet says she has a mass (most likely a tumour) near her liver. Ovaries feel fine now, compared to last time. She was well muscled wich is confusing as a mass on her liver, would thin her out. She pooed all over the vet. ALL OVER... Took the other two as reference and they feel scrawny to him. But have read that is to be expected with chickens in lay. Anyway, got another round of antibiotics for at least 10 days. And see if it will make a difference. But he also said she wasn't probably going to last years. Although he found her bright and alert and still very fit right now. Time will tell I guess. Cat tails
I really do share his feeling. Cinnamon has always given me the impression of being a somewhat wonky chicken. She never has had a normal walking gate. And I suspect she is the one that has been laying eggs with very thin shells. She has always been the slowest figuring out stuff or detecting food and such. But hey she is still happy, running for treats. And struggling appropriately when I try to give her her drops.
Cat tails
Got out my trusty black apron, to protect myself from muddy feed and antibiotic splatter... Hens are squiggly!
Luvachicken
Sorry to hear about Cinnamon Cat tails. Have you tried wrapping her in a towel to give her the medicine ? I had to give all of mine some of that Beryl's formula once It was absolutely vile and stinky beyond belief and really not nice when they flicked it off their beaks Here's to all squiggly hens
Cat tails
This actually smells really nice! Very sweet. Gave them some cat food as a treat as the vet said the other two were quite scrawney.
Cat tails
So far, she is really not looking any better. Still very bloated, and withdrawing more from the other two. Gave her her antibiotics just now and her crop was not feeling very full either. I have been away long days this week, but home early tomorrow, so will make sure she has a proper meal. But not very hopeful all in all. I will give it to Monday, but then make a decission.
Cat tails
So she didn't even appeared out of the coop this morning. Lifted her out to give the antibiotics, but she is incredibly sluggish and her comb and wattles are looking very dark/purplish. Made an appointment at the vet for this afternoon to end her suffering. Sad, but necessary I think.
Blackrocksrock
Unfortunately I think you are right - not good but at least you can do that for her to stop any suffering that may happen. When they go down they go down fast. So sorry.

Cat tails
Back from the vet. The wee thing took her time (and the same dose an average golden retriever needs) but is now definitely in a better place. She lost quite a bit of weight in one week. Will miss her beautiful brown eyes.

Valkyrie
How sad. You try all you can but they more or less decide for themselves. Had to do that with one of mine the other week. Numerous trips with all sorts of antibiotics and none were of any comfort/help to her.
