gavclojak
I can't believe it!! I have lost another girl overnight. That's two in two weeks!!!! She had a lovely day yesterday, all three of them pottering in the garden and in the sunshine pecking at the grass and digging then I looked out and she was just sitting on the grass. I thought that was a bit weird but watched her and she said old up, was a bit stiff looking but was eating drinking and had a handful of mealworms. I opened the door this morning and only two girls, popped out and I just knew!! She had died in her sleep tucked up with the others in the nest box. I had a good look at her and she had the mere suggestion of a squishy tummy but nothing concrete. So sad for my little brave girl but she did have a wonderful life and if it's possible, a nice death. Sleep tight little girl. I am now down to two, I was always going to take a hen holiday but this is a bit of a dilemma, if I lose another I will be left with a lone single hen.....my cube and enclosure looks empty... Groovychook
Oh I'm sorry to hear that At least it was quick and hopefully she didn't suffer but it must be a shock after your recent loss.
gavclojak
I know! I can't believe it. I know she was getting on bless her, she is an ex-commercial girl who was four and a half. I'm so glad she had a nice afternoon in the sun and fell asleep with her sisters around
Millie-Annie
That's a really good age for an ex-batt and testament to the love and care you gave her. Fly free little one xxx
mullethunter
Sorry to hear you've lost her but wouldn't we all like to go like that?!
gavclojak
Yes I agree, she was a lovely old girl and I'm glad she had such a lovely afternoon. I'm terrified something will happen to one of my last two....it's the eternal question isn't it...what do we do when we plan having a hen break and we have one girl left?? Millie-Annie
Thats how I ended up with my Clara, because she was a last one standing and my friend didn't want anymore.
AndyRoo
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! The MiL told me that a couple of hers have just suddenly gone in their sleep without any real explanation. She also had one which she said just keeled over in the garden - she was out playing in the run, and she checked on them an hour later and the poor girl was just on her side and gone limp. I think sometimes like people they must just silently slip away.
