AndyRoo
One of our girls, the white star, has just randomly stopped laying in the last week. She doesn't appear to be at all sick: she's eating, running round after scratch etc. She isn't broody, she isn't moulting. She's (I would guess) about 8 months old. She isn't egg bound (so far as I can tell) and she's not laying softies either. She's literally just stopped altogether. Any ideas?
Hippie Chick
Mine did this, she's a Speckledy and stopped laying at around a year old. 14 months later she started laying again. I have no explanation at all but it seems it does happen although it's not usual.
Luvachicken
All three of mine have been having a rest for the last week and a half
Blackrocksrock
I have one out of my two stopped laying for the first time, not broody, not dipping and not moulting she has laid almost every day for nearly 2 years so deserves a rest. Hope she is not all egged out!!!!!
AndyRoo
Oh, ok. I hadn't appreciated that they took summer vacations!
Chickabee
White stars are such prolific layers, they literally wear themselves out. Don't worry that she's taking a rest. Do keep an eye on her comb. Have you checked your coop for mites, have they been wormed? I'm sure she'll be fine, but I've had 2 die very young. I think they are intensely bred because they are popular. You could put some tonic in their water for a few days.

Her comb is still bright red, she seems perfectly chirpy. A girl down the road keeps some hens too, and she's had 2 white stars that she said both keeled over within a year(!). Maybe she's just worn herself out. I already told t'other half that we're not replacing any until 2-3 go, so hopefully the others will hold on a little longer it it transpires it is her time!
