mullethunter
I'd almost decided to add a couple of small hybrids (something like white stars) to my bantam flock to keep us in eggs over winter. But then I remembered the issue of vaccinations. Does anyone know if it's possible to get either unvaccinated hybrids, or hybrid hatching eggs? Chickabee
Basically depends where you get them from. Ive got 3 Colombian black tails. Bought as day olds privately. Unvaccinated
mullethunter
Oh OK - I read somewhere that all hybrids are commercially 'created' (for want of a better term) and all vaccinated. That's obviously not the case so I'll see if there's anyone down here who sells them unvaccinated.
Lewis
I wouldn't worry about it too much. We have vaccinated and unvaccinated birds together and have never had a problem. If you're looking at hybrids the White Stars tend to be quite flighty so any of them would mix with bantams just fine.
mullethunter
That's really good to hear, thanks Lewis. Perhaps a white star or two may join my gang before winter then
Luvachicken
Perhaps a white star or two may join my gang before winter then When do you think you might get them ?
mullethunter
Probably not until late autumn - and if it looks like Margot might keep laying through the winter then I probably won't bother.
Chickabee
I don't want to encourage you, but looking at when Margot first laid, I doubt she will lay through the winter. If you get hybrids that are born after the longest day, they may well lay through 2 winters. I like Lewis have vaccinated and non together
mullethunter
I don't want to encourage you Much! Thanks though Chickabee - I'd actually forgot how long ago she started so you're probably right. She's such a good layer - about 5 eggs most weeks
