Hybrid v Pure breed

Recommended Posts

OK, I am in the market for some new chickaboos! :P

I am really, really happy with the 5 Hybrid girls I have now but am weighing up the pros & cons of pure breeds for my next batch.

So.......what are the pros & cons then (lazy me - much easier to ask you lot!)

I am definitly wanting a couple of blue layers,& have been thinking about the Jasmine/Heritage Skyline, but what about blue laying pure breeds?

Sarah, as you know I'm just venturing into pure breeds so can't really comment on the negatives, as they've all been a delight to hatch and look after so far (apart from the Welsummers  ). I dare say, next year when I've got a load of broodies and no eggs, it'll be a different story.

There are a few other blue egg layers I quite fancy (got my 2nd greeny/blue egg today :D ), the Araucana and the Shetland. I'm slightly put off the Araucana as they're hard to sex.

It's certainly not true, in my experience, that pure breeds are not as friendly as hybrids (apart from the Welsummers), I literally trip over all my girls every time I step out the back, they're around my feet all the time and easy to pick up.

Have fun deciding :D

Thanks all :D

I am swaying towards Hybrid at the moment, purely because they are what I know ,& also the cosistant eggs throughout the year.

I do love the lok of Legbars, but then again Jasmines also have a funky wiggy hair do too :lol:

Still, I have plenty of time to decide (cube won't be here for 6-8 weeks  )
