Tessa the Duchess
We have had our Eglu (green) and 3 Miss Pepperpot chickens, Annie, Winnie and Minnie, for a week now. We are enjoying them very much and have taught them to come to us for treats by ringing a bell. We are keeping them in quite a small back garden in London, we let them free range as much as possible. I wondered if there is anybody else keeping chickens in a back garden in London, preferably North London? This forum is great, I learn so much by reading all the messages. Tessa. Tessa the Duchess
James, I am sadly not a fan of any football team, however both my sons are "Ooops, word censored!"nal fans if that makes it better. I live in Crouch End, so not a million miles away from Islington. Saw a fox in the garden tonight, luckily my new pets were already tucked up safely asleep. Following instructions from this forum I have sent my husband out to pee round the run! Tessa

Shirl
Welcome Tessa. Good on you training them to a bell. I go out and say "chook chook chook" which DP complains at when I tell him he has to say it too.
Tony
Following instructions from this forum I have sent my husband out to pee round the run! But is he a meat eater? Greetings and welcome. Green Eglu eh? Good choice!
arowland17
we trained ours to a bell too, they go crazy with excitement when they hear it as they know it's treat time!! We did it every time we gave them a treat from when they arrived as we were worried they may find a hole to escape through and wanted to be able to get them back if it ever happened - also makes it VERY easy to get them back into the run if we have to pop out as we only let them out supervised
Hen Watch
Hi and welcome Tessa. There are London people on this site and I'm sure they will see your post soon. My hubbie was despatched on "garden duties" too. It gets worse though, now when I clip his hair we have bags of human hair tied up on the fences too (neighbours think we are crackers.....) ChickNic
Hi Tessa, I too am a London Eglu owner (zone 2, south of the river!) - we got Daisy and Gretchen on Thursday! Our garden isn't massive as you can see, but the omlet man said it was fine. We have let them out a couple of times, but Daisy is so timid she doesn't venture far from the run and it takes her ages to come out. Do your neighbours seem to mind you having them? I'm a bit paranoid they will get noisy, but so far (touch wood) they are not troublesome at all! Best wishes, Nicky [/img]
