Alis girls
Despite scrubbing I cannot get rid of staining- in places its like dry clay. I tried everything even sodium bicarb. The drinkers also get mould which I scrub out daily. Any ideas oh great ones?
The Dogmother
All my drinkers and feeders go in the dishwasher each week, with a dollop of Viratec P powder Try Barkeeper's Friend on the roosting bars.
Ursula123
I soak my roosting bars in a wheelie bin with an anti calcium liquid (anti limescale) and they come up a dream. Not sure if you can buy this in the UK as coming from Devon we had soft water and no limescale problems so I never needed it but readily available here in France. Alis girls
Would kettle descaler do it I wonder. Am ordering barkeepers friend today
Ursula123
Possibly as I do use anticalcaire in the kettle, I also remember reading a tip about bicarb and vinegar on the Yukky bits and letting it foam and leaving for about half an hour then rinse off. Cat tails
Just ordinary vinegar would do the same as an anti limescale product.

Blackrocksrock
When I sold mine I put the glug, grub and the roosting bars in the dishwasher, after an initial big scrub and then ran it at the hottest setting afterwards - they came out sparkling - I had a already tried everything else but nothing worked - wish I had known earlier and would have done it before. Miss my chooks but the garden is not so messy!!!!!

Laura007
I'm going to have to find some of this. Is it something that can be purchased on the High Rd??
The Dogmother
Yep, most supermarkets or hardware shops seem to stock it and you can get it online.
Blackrocksrock
Showing my age here but used to get similar called Vim or Ajax both powder forms. Similar to Bar Keepers friend. I remember doing our bath and sink at home with these.
Neil Jones
Oh I remember Vim with great affection lol & didn’t the late Victoria Wood once write a line saying “Oooh she’s a stranger to Ajax?” as a most marvellous silly out down! x
