Jules.
does anyone else like to collect these which they find (postmen use them) to make them into balls?
The Dogmother
We've got tons at work - all made into balls by some mysterious pixie - I've always wondered who does it... I took loads home the other week, and Rosie made a massive ball out of them too.

Paola
You can buy big elastic band balls from Hawkins Bazzar (sp?) at the mo Why buy when you can steal them from the postie for free
Jules.
My old boss got me into this...she left to work for another office a few months ago. Her ball was always biger than mine and an admirer of hers "stole" a bag of them from the postie's bike she shared them with me though. Took me all of Watchdog to fasten them around... and I had sore & smelly fingers after. When she left she took her ball with her, so now my home ball has gone into work & is now the branch's new ball.... I have since started another home ball. The number of children we hear saying "look at the size of that elastic band ball" (it's on the counter) We sneak bands from customers to make the ball bigger I heard this week that her ball is now the size of a football Edited October 26, 2007 by Guest

The Dogmother
I always pick them up too - I hate to see waste and they're harmful to animals.

Lesley
I give them back to the postman - he says they can be re-used about 4 times before they go 'ping' I do keep some, in a drawer - just in case!
Cate in NZ
I feel deprived, my postman doesn't seem to have pink elastic bands, at any rate I never recieve any no matter how many letters we get, nor do I ever remember seeing any in the street. I guess we must just have a very coscientous postman who takes them all back with him . Oh, and I don't have an elastic band ball either . Very, very deprived then
Guest
I've made these when bored at work. However I have been in a shop where they have a huge one. It's a leather shop and they are not the busiest places so it's easy to understand how it got made. However - it's not got any bigger in a while as the leather shop branched out into another line that has not only taken over most of the store but has customers flocking in and even enabled them to hire a stand at Bluewater and do fantastic business. Now what product could possibly be that much of a draw. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. CROCS! Snowy
Maybe that's where all the surplus rubber bands have gone! I've only ever seen one of these red rubber bands once. It was just after someone on here had posted about them a few months back. I pointed it out to OH and said 'oh look, a red rubber band, so that's what they were talking about on the omlet forum'. He just went
craftyhunnypie
Erm - well, we are a drop off point for the postmen's bags. Every morning the red van drops off all the bags at our house ready for the posties - so this means they unwrap each bundle & take off the elastic bands & let them drop onto our drive, front garden & what we call our woods. Hubby is obsessed with picking them all up - it's like his has found gold when he picks them up. It doesn't take much to keep him happy! We have a right stash tho. Perhaps I should start a rubber band tree??? Emma.x
Jules.
My dad & the children spot them for me too.....
Tina C
Layla is obsessed with collecting every single one - even the dirty ones. We pass the sorting office on the way to school and there is always loads there. It drives me insane. Someone told me that they are biodegradable but I am not so sure - but they do have a different texture to other rubber bands so maybe???
