Arguments for Battery Farming.

Recommended Posts

Good luck for tomorrow Martin,

You of course won't need any luck, put a balanced presentation across, (not possible, I know, It's like trying to find the good points of Adolf Hitler, who was popular at one time in certain circles) the truth speaks for itself. Don't forget to mention how much better the eggs of happy chooks compare to those of their caged counterparts.

...including a picture of Emma from behind!

I had to read that twice. I thought you might have been reffering to an eglu bum

Mind you, thinking about it, it would be a good way to get the Eglu into the presentation  (sorry Emma...)

Good luck Martin. I'm sure you'll wipe the floor with them.

Wow!

I don't think I've seen 30 16 year olds quiet for such a long time.

It was pretty good to say the least.

Everybody seemed inspired and I was greeted with a round of applause before I had even finished. :?

The first 2 groups took 5 minutes of:

"Battery Farming is bad, the chickens are ill."

"No they're not it's economically sensible"

Which was pretty boring to say the least, they were reading off scripts and you can tell they had spent the 2 planning hours playing games on the internet.

I felt quite victimised aswell to be fair, if they had a question they would throw it at me directly and not at anybody else in the group, and when I didn't know or couldn't reason then they got on my back a bit. But it all went well.

I did my seperate BHWT speech and rescue day talk in 30 minutes, but some of the images I had used spoke for themselves.

We also had 10 minutes of questions, so all in all I have given the teacher a problem as not all the presentations have been performed. 3 more tomorrow, I wonder how many will steal my points.:lol:

The teacher was really impressed aswell and said he wsa " In awe of my work."

I suppose that's slight progress.

I wouldn't feel victimised, martin - if I were you I would feel delighted and proud about making such an impression that it was felt that I could cope with direct questioning. I'm sure it was obvious to your fellow classmates that you had come into the class well prepared and knowledgable on the subject. If they were trying to catch you out with difficult questions, then it means that they realised that it would be a challenge! Well done!

Hi Martin,

Congratulations. It's great to hear when someone puts themselves on the line as I feel you did. I've read this thread regularly and have been impressed with what you have done. It takes a lot of guts to argue for something which you don't agree with, especially in front of your peers and your ability to put your own feelings to one side during the debate shows you to be an excellent debater.

Well done. I hope you manage to persuade more consumers of your age to stop buying eggs from battery and caged hens.

Well done you.

Well done Martin!

I don't want to hijack your thread, but this kind of fits here and certainly doesn't need a thread of its own . . .

DD3 did cooking today and took in our own eggs. :D Her classmates were amazed at how bright the yolks were in comparison to theirs. :D Then one of her friends proudly brought over her egg-box to show DD3 that she had eggs from Caged Hens  Poor girl thought that this was a good thing and didn't realise that a caged hen was the same as a battery hen. DD3 gently put her right. :D

But it did remind me that we are all so immersed in this that I for one assume that everyone knows about it, even if they still buy cheap eggs. Caged Hens sounds a little nicer than Battery Hens and some people just may be fooled. Poor embarrassed 12 year old - but probably another converted family :D
