soapdragon
Do hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas, in spite of the obvious elephant in the room!? New Year? Goodness, I can't get excited about another turn of the year with yet more restrictions, worry and angst. We don't stay up for the big yahoo anyway and haven't since ES was born (he was an appalling sleeper so we grabbed what we could when we could!) so nothing new there for us but how do you all feel about 2022? Up for midnight with some fizz or an early nighter?!
Cat tails
Never “got” the whole New Year thing. Hate most fireworks and really thankful that this year again there is a ban on private fireworks though, only last year it didn’t hold most people back from producing enormous amounts of carbondioxide… Will have dinner at my moms, but than be back early to put away all animals. Maybe get myself an oliebol. There is no chance of going to bed early because of said pyrotechnic neighbours.
Blackrocksrock
Don’t stay up any more either now. No one on the go here. I am usually awake and the kids (grown up) message after the bells!
mullethunter
Before the relationship I’m in now NYE was always the biggest party night of the year. Sometimes I enjoyed it, sometimes not (so much pressure to have the BEST time). My partner now though absolutely hates socialising and doesn’t drink so has never done anything at all to mark New Year’s Eve - so I don’t any more either. This has been the state of play for nearly 15 years now. At first I found it VERY difficult and had massive FOMO at doing nothing. Now I don’t mind so much but do find it odd to be in bed and not note the changing of the year at all.
Beantree
We just lost interest in the whole event about 15 years ago. Fireworks upsetting the chickens and drunks fighting outside the local pub. Fortunately here we don't get any of that, so bed at the usual time and get up just before dawn for a cup of tea and then open up the coops. Daphne
Well I shall be on a plane, land early evening, drive home and possibly go to local village hall for fizzy wine with some raisins in it (can't remember why offhand!), a few fireworks and then either a walk home, or a boozy night at either our house or a friends (although probably not, given coronavirus, although 4 of us do manage to socially distance quite easily). However, it may well be that I just want a snoozle and to see my own house/bed/cats/OH (not in that order, obvs!) and be thankful I haven't been locked down. I am looking forward to 2022, on the basis it will be better than 2021. CT - what is an oliebol?
HarrisonFamily
We normally sleep through it but this year we have been invited to friends for a small gathering - I don't really drink but it will be nice to see people and play a few games, that is if everyones lateral flows are all negative on the day. We didn't have many fireworks in November so hoping the same at New Year but with the dog being so old he has gone deaf it does make it easier. Luvachicken
I'm not that bothered about NYE especially - I'd rather go to bed early especially as school starts soon after - but everyone else wants to stay up and watch the fireworks on the telly. This year though, DD and boyfriend are going to The Watercress Line to see the lights on the trains and won't be coming until about 10.30pm, so the rest of us will play games instead and then play more games when they get here. When we were little, NYE was such fun - all our family lived very near to each other so it would be a huge get together. These days everyone lives far away and it is just not the same (even if Covid were to allow it)

Best eaten warm with powdered sugar on top… 😋

Alis girls
Was in bed and said "happy new year" to OH and promptly fell asleep!!! YS now allowed out stumbled in about 2.30am and muttered HNY to us we grunted a response. We are shattered. Not sure how we managed not to get COVID. My friend her hubbie and daughter all have it. Been shopping for her and chatting from the drive, 😳 its like deja bloody vous. Fed up with life in UK. Weather miserable, everyone fed up. We did manage to get to panto yesterday - sadly without my aunt whos kept away from us - it lifted our spirits a bit. Am aware that we were sitting in a huge petri dish of kids. Kept my mask on and hoped for the best. HNY all - lets hope for better times. xx
Daphne
We managed 2.30am as well, standing around outside in the cold! However, we all had a glass or 2 of cheap fizz and caught up, it was really nice. A friend came round on NY Day to wish us a Happy New Year, and we had other friends to dinner last night. It feels like a different world when the sun is shining, so all I can say, is keep the faith, it will get better.
soapdragon
I went to bed at usual time (10.30) and read for far too long, OH toddled up in a miasma of Deep Heat (put his back out getting Xmas tree in 2 weeks ago) and we nodded off well before midnight - ES (17) was washing up at the village pub so I didn't settle until I heard him crashing in at 11.20pm! I think I vaguely heard fireworks around midnight from the other side of sleep but nowt more than that. Lots of people out walking NY day.....some looking very bleary!
