lozkate
Hi all, What sort of chicken is this?? We thought we'd bought a Maran that would lay dark brown eggs. Tikka clearly has other ideas and is squeezing out pastel blue ones. Any thoughts? Loz ('n'Kate)
Cinnamon
No, but blue eggs - how cool!

Cinnamon
Maybe she is a mutant Maran Legbar cross ? She certainly looks like an English Maran, but blue eggs.....................
lozkate
Better pic Any good??
lozkate
The egss have a greenish tinge aswell. I've got a pic with one of the Sussex's eggs for comparison. Not complaining about the eggs. Just curious if anyone's had similar from a similar hen!! Maybe the blubelle will lay golden ones when she starts! Snowy
Wow, they really are blue aren't they! I think she must be a throw back and have some araucana blood in her genetic makeup!
xChicken04x
Do you think she could be a skyline? xx

lozkate
Thanks everyone. I had one of the blues for brekkie this AM - Scrummy. We emailed the supplier to enquire about the chances of araucana being in her lineage. Will advise. Just looked at a Speckeldey and I see what you mean. Speckeldy's lay blue eggs?? Carol U
She does look a bit like a Speckledy, but they're supposed to lay chestnut coloured eggs.
Jools
She looks too pale to be a Marans - unless she's a boy (which would make her very famous and very, very rich)! Also, Marans don't have white earlobes. My guess would be that she's a hybrid of some description, but I don't think Speckledies lay blue eggs either. Whatever, she's very pretty and lays BLUE EGGS!!!!
chocolatedog
She does look a bit like a Speckledy, but they're supposed to lay chestnut coloured eggs. Spice is laying a mid-brown colour at the moment......I was expecting them to be a lot darker......

lozkate
Does anyone have a good picture of a legbar? I have just spoken to the breeder and he wonders if that is what she is but I cant seem to find any good pictures on the internet. Anyway I have sent him the pics of the 'Maran' and the pic of the eggs and he is going to ring me back. Thanks for all your replies. RubyMurray
Hi there, My friend has loads of different breeds and she looks like a Maran to me although my friends Maran doesn't have the gold colouring on their neck so it could be a cross (with a legbar due to the blue egg - my friend also has Legbars but only has hens of both breeds so haven't seen a Maran x Legbar.\0 Looks lovely though whatever she may be. Take care, Dyan
