Martin B
Could you please stop suggesting that we drop forums to make room for a BHWT section then. Ditto

CatsCube
TBH I really dont see the point of this, what would it be used for?? If its telling your stories of having rehomed them, then how is this any different to anyone else having just got new girls? Of its about problems that you are having with them, how is this any differnt from problems that other chicken keepers may be having? Why this need for something seperate? By this rational their sould be seperate sections to deal with pure breeds and another section or hybrids, and for chicks etc etc etc They are all chickens!!!! they all have their unique personalities, behavior, problems, illnesses etc, But we all post our questions and stories etc and offer advice or opionions regardless of wether they are ex batt or not. Buffies thread is great for giving information about rescues, and information for people wanting to rehome ex batts and provdes links to the site for further information, why need anything more? Why the special treatment of a complete section?

Mrs Frugal
Some very pertinent points there, CatsCube. Thank you .
Snowy
I must admit I would be sorry to see all items related to battery hens go to a seperate section. Although I don't have ex batts myself, I have learnt an awful lot about chicken care from those who do, and I might have missed that if it were in a different section. Like others, I have to prioritise which sections I read and can't get through them all.
chocchick
Why the special treatment of a complete section? Because I thought it was one of the most important issues to people on the forum as there are always raffles, and competitions for the BHWT, and debates about food sources. Because it would give it more weight and put it on an equal footing with gardening, crafts etc. Beacause it is good cause, and would save hens if someone new saw it and helped the BHWT, rather than just being a hobby. Because Omlet has links with the BHWT. Because I miss a lot of information as it is surrounded by other threads. Because people are busy and often want the information straight away without searching. Because following a long thread is difficult as if you join part way in you have to read the whole thing to catch up. New people join and start reasking the same questions, or don't know which page the info they need is on. I rarely read Lesley's thread just because it was hard to follow rather than because I wasn't interested. In longer threads it tends to change direction and it's redundant going back 2 pages when the thread has moved on. chocchick
It is an opinion or idea, it doesn't mean I expect it to happen or think the forum sections or moderators are good or bad. I didn't even suggest the vote, or know that there were politics about the number of sections. I'm upset I don't feel comfortable to express what I think if it is not the "popular" or "official" opinion.
chelsea
I don't see what's wrong with popping into the Chicken section, if you're interested in chickens, that's what I do! I scan down & read loads of posts about BHWT hens and their new homes. There have been some lovely stories in there, and lots of support in Clinic for any health problems. Most people put relevant words in the title, so it's easy to find ones that'll interest you, it's not necessary to read every one. I find that it's just as quick to whizz selectively through each section as it is to try & save time by sticking to a couple of sections. So, I'm voting along the lines of "if it ain't broke, why fix it?" Agree with you sheila. There is nothing wrong with the way the forum is now. If I want to read something to do with BHWT then I will search for it or it will be in the thread title. I spend most of my "surfing time" looking at this forum anyway! This is the best run forum I visit, and very well moderated.

I've felt like I've had to tread on egg shells today myself but that aside, you express away, everyone is entitled to their opinion! xxxxx
theherd123
Dont be upset Chocy. Everyone on the forum has a right to express their opinion in a structured and well thought out way - it does not have to conform to the 'popular' or 'official' opinion (what ever that is!) The joy of this forum is that it is open and everyone is welcome to state what they think in an even tone. So please, if you have something to say and wish to say it you shouldnt feel anyone is restricting your voice. Healthy debate is welcome. Can i just add that i never read threads that are over 10 or so pages long. its too time consuming and I can never keep up. I would make use of a BHWT thread!
