redfrock
A close friend of ours is currently in Afghanistan and has asked us to sell his car for him. We have listed it online in Autotrader. Unfortunately we haven't had a genuine response just yet but we are getting a worryingly large amount of dodgy email responses - the kind that stitch you up with payment. I have heard of it happening frequently on Ebay, but I didn't realise they were trawling Autotrader as well Thankfully I am pretty clued up but some of them are more realistic than others and it is worrying to think that people might be taken in. These are 3 of the ones we have received today (all of them are sent from very 'English' names yet read appallingly): "Hello good day seller, I am very much pleased with your VOLVO for sale,I will like to know the conditions, does it has Very Smooth/clean... ? The actaul price of the VOLVO ,hope you got all the document needed in hand and just wanna know if you are the first owner of the VOLVO..... ? just let me know the how its work or is there any faults in this VOLVO ... ? Your last price for the VOLVO....??? I hope to read from you in mail soonest... " Good day I am an auto dealer based in LONDON, I am interested in buying your VOLVO I will like to know if you would accept a certified cashier's check for the payment of the item, i also need to know the price and your full name and address and your Phone number is also needed in which payment will be sent to. I have a shipping company who takes cares of my shipments .So don't bother about the shipment will also like to know if is still in a good condition and shape. Urgent response is needed for procedure of payment of the car REGARD Hii Good Day to u . How are u doing and how is ur family ? My Name is Lisa Williamson. Ain't Nobody Here
We've just had a warning email from a friend about a VISA/Mastercard scam. Someone phones up and says there's been potential fraudulent activity on your card. Long story short ..... they sound extremely plausible and have all your details (name/address/card no) except the 3 digit security code on the back of your card. Obviously, you mustn't give them the 3 digit number. I'm sure everyone on here knows that but just in case they catch you out ......
Charlottechicken
We get phishing emails every day at work. I cannot believe the people who send them really think there is someone who works for the Government called 'Customer Services'
Popcorn
Well I wouldn't go with them purely on the the fact that I cannot stand poor grammer, especially when it's with such simple words. Using 'u' and 'cos' is terrible!

KateP
I recently sold my car on Auto Trader and luckily didn't get any dodgy emails but did receive (and am still receiving) loads of annoying phone calls. They are all from other firms wanting to advertise my car on their websites and in other magazines. I have told them I'm not interested but they don't give up easily! Guest
If its any cosolation last time I sold a car through Auto Trader I got the emails and phone calls too. I did eventually get a couple of genuine emails and phone calls - one was a time waster (in my opinion) as he lived in Dagenham and did not have a car so could I come to Dagenham. I said I was not able to come to Dagenham but that I was in Elm Park over the weekend and he could view the car there. He told me he couldn't get to Elm Park as he didn't have a car ITS 2 STOPS MAX ON THE UNDERGROUND!!! So he agreed to come to Elm Park between 1pm and 6pm on the Saturday, when I was at my Mums. He never showed up but there was somone knocking on Mum's door at around 10pm that night - they woke her up! She didn't answer the door and the next day I got an email from him complaining he came but "Ooops, word censored!"ody was home!!!! The other caller bought the car - was a lovely lady and we went to the building society together and she had them transfer the money to my account, then back to her house to do the paperwork (she lived near Mum) then we drove back to my Mums house to drop me off and it turned out she worked for my Mums nextdoor neighbor! It's a small world.
