Cheryl
I went to buy some chicken food this morning at Jollys pet store in Enfield and came across these darling little bantams, but the person who sold them to me who was just an assistant could be specific on the breed... Any idea or advice welcomed thank you, aren't they gorgeous, I think I paid too much for them but I didnt mind rescueing them from their little cage... Helen&Lee
They are gorgeous whatever they are I'm wondering if they are Cochins? My Blue Brahma is similar - just don't think her tail is as high... I would have had trouble resisting them too I must repeat the mantra - No more chickens, No more chickens Helen
feemcg
I think they're Pekin bantams - but I could be completely wrong . I'm off to feathersite to check
Yorkshire Pudding
I don't know the breed, but I do know what they are. They're GORGEOUS!
xChicken04x
They are gorgeous! I think the darker one is a cochin and the lighter one is a pekin. xx
chelsea
I think the lighter one is a cochin. The darker one im not sure. The tail is different, my cochin's tails are like the light one. The other one's tail is a lot more upright.
Faye&Ant
Ive got two pekin bantams and they look very similar. You have two very gorgeous girls there!
Cheryl
i paid 35 pounds each!...terrible eh?..i walked off and came back twice...
Faye&Ant
but just think what a happy life they will have with you rather than stuck in a pokey cage
Cheryl
i'm in love,,,they are so cute
chelsea
i paid 35 pounds each!...terrible eh?..i walked off and came back twice... if they are pure breeds then the price is about right. I paid £37 each for my 14 week old cochins!!
CatsCube
For that price Im guessing cochins. cochins are a bit more fluffy than pekins. My breeder changes around £35 for cochins and £25 for pekins. If they are pekins then you have been ripped off paying that for bantams. They look like a cross between the two. Be prepared though if they are cochins they will grow to be VERY big! Just about the largest chicken you can get.
Cinnamon
Not sure - look like Pekins to me. I would have had to have them too,if I had seen them
Scooby
I'd say they were pekin bantums too. I've got two white ones and they look like this. I only paid £6 each for my 3 girls though! No way would I pay £
chelsea
I think Cinnamon is right. the more I look at the top picture the more I think they are pekins and not cochins,... here's my cochins and they are a completely different shape
Cinnamon
Claret will know - hang on,I will see if I can find her
The Dogmother
They're both pekins Cheryl - one lavender and one blue. Delightful babies, and full of personality. I always have at least two in my flock. They are great chooks to have around, but will go broody easily. Price-wise... you was robbed Del-Boy! The Dogmother
Great minds eh Sarah? been there, done that and even got the Omlet T shirt xx
Cinnamon
Glad you agree they are Pekins - they are such little characters, aren't they? Ours is a lemon cuckoo Pekin, christened Sherbert but called Thug, because she walks around like a bouncer in a nightclub
The Dogmother
Mine do that too Sarah, but they are soft as butter really. I had one (Layla) who used to race out of the run door into my lap when I opened up in the morning Definitely great with children, but can be a bit noisy when they lay an egg. Cheryl
ahhhhh, yeah i knew i'd been robbed don't tell me!...the place i bought them from are thieves... you should see the price they charge for dogs...tut tut.. anyway... I STILL LOVE THEM!!!,,,and,,,,the gut was moaning because he had two males and i took his twoo hens,,wot an idiot...still...it was very local and we would have had a big drive from here to get anything as nice..so i suppose i paid for the convenience.... The Dogmother
They look quite young Cheryl, but you should get eggs soon - one looks older than the other.
CatsCube
funny though that one has an upright tail and one doesnt, the shape of the paler one looks more like a feathered leg version of my Miniture Orp. Did they even say that they are purebreeds, as they look more like a bit of crossing going on.
Aunty e
Don't worry, I drove for HOURS to get my first pekins and they were still £20 each after all that. And they're lovely birds.
Cheryl
awwwwwwww......i'm over the price now!..but i was supposed to visit my brother on sunday for tea, but i think i will have to stay here with them as i have been advised by omlet not to put them together for about 5 days...so if i disappear from here, i will have nowhere to segregate them as our older girls are freeranging all day,as we are around, and the little newbies are in the cube run...urgh telling my brother we wont be coming over because of the chickens will probably be the last straw... now theres a dilemma.....!
