Kenwood have just brought out a baby/compact one which sounds very good. Lakeland are selling it.... but I had a look at it on the Kenwood site. Janty
Go on ... you know you want one. We have a kitchenaid in school and it's always going wrong. The Chefs are cool and the Chef majors are stainless steel which goes with everything ... very modern, clean and sleek.
little chickadee
My grandad has a 1970's one sitting in his kitchen, and, seeing as he is 98 and only eats ready meals.............. Will need a bit of scrubbing though Hope it still works
Egluntyne
Lakeland sell a "starter" version for £149.00. Called the Prospero
The Dogmother
Aaahh, but it doesn't have the lovely old glass liquidiser... you HAVE to have one of those - they are just the best. My mother has one that was a wedding present, so is 50 years old this year. Hers has a grey k"Ooops, word censored!" and trim while mine is blue, she also has far more attachments than I do, but I probably wouldn't use them all TBH. Snowy
I was given a plastic liquidiser for mine, without a lid. It also needed a sealing ring to go between the jug and the blade bit. Bought the ring off ebay for 99p and use a saucer for the lid. I looked at buying a glass jug but to be honest the quality of the plastic is so good, I won't bother. It is really thick and strong - unlike the modern plastic of my food processor that has started to craze. And it is still perfectly clear even after plenty of dishwasher exposures! Olly
wow - now I'm interested. I have a Braun hand blender, and a cheap mixer for cakes, meringue etc. I also have a Braun food-processor which is 22 years old (it was a wedding present, and has outlasted most other presents, and indeed lasted a lot longer than the marriage! ) it's still working, but I fear its days are numbered. Now I assumed that a Kenwood Chef was just for cakes - I didn't realise you could also grate and slice with it. And make dough? (My breadmaker is rubbish, I'm going to Freecycle it). I think I might have found the replacement for the Braun when it goes. Is the KC really as good for slicing/grating as a stand-alone food processor? What about the sort of thing where you use the blade to make biscuit dough - can you do that as well?
bronze
From what I can work out it can pretty much do anything bar turn your roomba on.
The Dogmother
Olly, you can even get pasta makers and cream makers for them!
Olly
stop it, I can't afford to get anything else! I will have to wait for the Braun to give up the ghost, which could be any time soon. I am really, really tempted though. My wrists hurt if I knead dough by hand for long, and the idea of not having to hold the mixer is tempting! golly, the things you learn on this forum. Louise
I also have a Braun food-processor which is 22 years old (it was a wedding present, and has outlasted most other presents, and indeed lasted a lot longer than the marriage! ) I have a Braun food-processor that was a wedding present to and it is still on the go but the marriage Maybe it is a kiss of death style wedding present
Olly
... I remember being hugely excited, my employers bought it for me and it was probably one of the most expensive wedding presents I got. On the whole, I think the food processor has been more reliable, more useful and less trouble than the husband was It certainly never went off and grated somebody else's cheese, so to speak ... bronze
I'm watching a KC on ebay at the mo. If I get it it'll have to be bargain price. Now one of the reasons it'll be that is because (plunger missing, but can use anything as plunger, at present i use handle of wooden spoon). . Now I'm happy to use a wooden spoon but I'm not quite sure what the plunger does (apart from plunge ) Would you think this was a problem?
