BeckyBoo
I can't make puff pastry either, or filo, so it's frozen here every time. I also LOVE instant SMASH altho I try not to. Make it really runny with a MASSIVE lump of real butter in and black pepper. I'm salivating at the thought. Some people have asecret "thing" for chocolate, mines Smash Can't see them ever making THAT organic! Mrs Bertie
The Dogmother
Tessa, Lesley and I are the Camp Coffee Queens - we often use it in baking Ginette - SNAP! Did you make liver, bacon and onions too?
Snowy
I remember Camp coffee! Libbys corned beef - another name from the past. OH used to work for Libbys, in the rice pudding factory, before it was taken over by Nestle
Cinnamon
I remember an orange juice that came as a frozen concentrate which you mixed with water. Re the powdered stuff - its still very popular in the USA KOOL AID We used to have those Fray Bentos tinned pies too - Steak & Ale was my favourite. I still keep Smash in the cupboard as it is fantastic for thickening soups & stews & I will admit to never making my own pastry as ready made is brilliant. bronze
Wasnt Jamie also going on about dont bother making pastry just buy it!
The Dogmother
Probably I don't mind making regular pastry, it's the puff and filo that I don't see the point in making - life's far too short. I know how to do it and that's enough for me!
Tessa the Duchess
We used to have those Fray Bentos tinned pies too - Steak & Ale was my favourite. We still have those Fray Bentos tinned pies They are DH's fave comfort food, we have to have them with tinned new potatoes and frozen peas When my dog was really ill and stopped eating she suddenly developed a pash for FB Steak and Ale pies. I used to cook her one all for herself every night, until thankfully she got better and went back to dawg food. Tessa
Egluntyne
. And who are the people that still buy Izal germacide toilet paper somebody must still use it or they wouldn't manufacture it Tessa I think it is just the elderly, Tessa...old habits die hard and all that. Not exactly a luxury is it.

CatsCube
Having a few rolls of puff pastry is a must, it gets used for everythiong here. After Jamie Oliver said it was a must have. When I have left over roast meat I stick it with gravy and veg in a dish, pop some puff pastry over the top and hey presto one meat pie. Also if I have left over apples, pears or any fruit really I just pop some slices on the pastry with a little jam glaze and bung em in the oven as little tarts. A million and one uses. Guest
I remember crispy pancakes - actually I quite liked them! And I recall hating Butterscotch Angel Delight and being made to eat it. One of those "you'll sit there until it's all gone" moments. It really made me feel sick.
Egluntyne
I remember eating some strawberry Angel Delight....only it hadn't been mixed properly, and getting this mouthful of disgusting powder that started to fizz as soon as it was in my mouth. Our mothers thought they Angel Delights) were full of goodness because you added milk.

Our mothers thought they Angel Delights) were full of goodness because you added milk. Oh, that just brought back the most horrendous memories My grandmother used to be a hairdresser, and even into retirement she used to cut and perm her friends hair at her own home. For a short while my sister's and I lived with her, back in the back end of nowhere in Wales, and her idea of a nutritious pudding for us all was Strawberry Angel Delight. Since her eyesight wasn't great she rarely managed to see all the ends of hair on her kitchen table...............so her house speciality dessert was hairy Angel Delight . I kid you not...........to add insult to injury this was back in the 70's and she belonged to the "waste not want not" generation, and I remember very forlorn evenings sitting at the table for hours on end, not being allowed to leave the table until we'd eaten every last bit I have never, ever even looked at an Angel Delight since *shudders*. Ain't Nobody Here
It looks weird. You are short of an "L". Allegedly. I thought it looked odd so typed "aledgedly" into Google and loads of websites with that spelling appeared . Should've trusted my instinkts . Edit: I've just read your post Afamily . BeckyBoo
My OH still likes crispy pancakes - he asked for some the other day but I forgot to order them! He liked the minced beef ones though Not my bag I must say - but that fizzing Angel Delight thing reminded me of Stardust - does anyone remember that? It was a sachet of chemicals that paraded as a sweet that you tipped back into your throat then waited whilst it crackled and fizzed and threatened to choke you!! And Texans - they were lovely, broke your jaw if you put them in the fridge! I used to love Angel Delight, (not how your lot made it though! ) I remember Blue Peter advising you to add a pint not a half of milk and two dollpos of ice cream to make really thick milkshakes, they were lovely Mrs Bertie
