Egluntyne
I've had this several times Egluntine, it's very painful isn't it I was told - (eventually) that the ulcers are a form of Herpes - like the ones people get on their lips - so its likely you will get the problem again. I very rarely wear contacts now - but still find glasses annoying - its the steaming up / having to wipe them when its raining that irritates me That hasn't been mentioned. It is the first time I have had probs re the contact lenses. Oh blimey!
dogs and chickens
How are you feeling today Egluntine? Any better? What an awful business for you, I hope it's not something that will keep coming back, what a worry for you.

What an awful business for you, I hope it's not something that will keep coming back, what a worry for you. Quite a bit better thanks. I reckon it was a tear in the lens that did it. At least I hope so! I don't fancy having the herpes virus.
Cinnamon
Just caught up with this (there is just too much to read these days ) Glad you are feeling better - eye injuries & infections are horrid. Apparantly warm squeezed out camomile tea bags can be really soothing

Louise
I hate to be the harbinger of doom but my uncle who is an eye surgeon (in Germany so no referral ) says that the thing that keeps him in business is people who continue to wear contacts and damage their eyes Once you have damaged the surface of the eye it will be more prone to it and he has seen people lose their sight in an eye through it He recommends ditching contacts

chickencam
I hope you are feeling better today. I love my glasses by the way I couldn't stand the thought of contacts. My glasses hide the bags under my eyes
Louise
Whenevr I go to the opticians they try to get me to use contacts so I tell them what my uncle thinks about contacts they usually shut up then I think modern ones are better but they can do so much damage with a speck of dust etc and quite frankly my eyesight is not worth the risk

little chickadee
I damaged my eye with a tape measure about fifteen years ago, luckily it was on what the doctor described as the not so imprtant bit! i.e. the white of the eye rather than the yolk I had some chemical stitches to glue the offending flap back down. I remember thinking at the time that it is either superglue they are using or they are just telling porkies to make me feel better. It took about three months before I could blink without the feeling of having my eyelid stapled to my eye and about three years for it to return to normal. You really really don't realise how much you blink until it is extremely painful to do so! I now wear contact lenses (I never thought I could even attempt them) and safety glasses for the most mundane of tasks including tape measures! My OH had this just after we moved into our first house. He pulled some hardboard off the boarded up banisters and got a splinter in his eye. Several operations later, his sight is almost ok again in that eye, but he always uses safety specs now. Sorry for transgressing Egluntine and hope that you will be totally better soon. superjules
I have discovered that you can chop mountains of onions with contacts in, and not shed a tear! Keep your onions in the fridge and they don't make you cry either. Or do what Jamie Oliver used to and wear a snorkelling mask. Glad to hear your eye is less painful.
