DW
Am planning to replace woodchips with Hemcore or Aubiose. Is there any difference and does anyone know where I can get one, the other or both from, in Sheffield? D.
Egluntyne
Hello. They are essentially the same. Hemcore is slightly chunkier.....and used to be scented with citronella. I get my Aubiose from: Horse & Rider (at Crookes). 187, Northfield Rd, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S10 1QQ Tel: 0114 268 2523 Give them a ring first to see if they have it in stock.....it is very popular. They close at 1pm on a Thursday, and the chap who carries it to your car doesn't work on a Tuesday.

DW
Thanks for the Horse & Rider contact, Eglutine - will call them this afternoon. D.
jomaxsmith
The difference here is about 70p a bale I've tried both now and Aubiose is much kinder to the hands when you're getting it out of the bag (Hemcore seems more compressed and harder to get out as well as more spikey). I need to buy more tomorrow and I don't know whether to go for soft Aubiose or Buy British with Hemcore Jo
TAJ
My sister (who keeps horses) tells me these are branded horse bedding products made of hemp and flax respectively - there are many horse flax and hemp based horse bedding products - I cannot remember the name of the one I have, but the horse suppliers recommended it as the one other 'chicken people' used as it is finer and more chopped than some of the others apparently. I prefer Aubiose as it's less chunky and softer on the hands.
Eyren
Our usual country store only sells hemcore - and this morning I snapped up their last bale
Tina C
Having now tried both I prefer aubiose too - definitely softer (although it does not have the citronella)
The Dogmother
I could never smell the citronella in the Hemcore, and always add a few drops myself in the summer.
SharonX
Hi, I've now had my chickens 15 days & am looking to replace my woodbark soon & was thinking of hempcore or the other, forgotten name! What are we looking at price wise a bale? Sharon
Christian
Hello SharonX I pay about £7 a bale which lasts for months. Most horsey type shops sell hemcore or aubiose.
SharonX
Hi Christian That's very good, cheaper than what I paid for wood chippings! Just phoned my local horse store & they don't sell either but gave me an address for a supplier. Will take a trip this weekend I think. Thanks Sharon
kiwichick
wishes someone would import Hemcore or Aubiouse into the US
Egluntyne
wishes someone would import Hemcore or Aubiouse into the US I believe it is because it is Hemp based....and all hemp based products are viewed with a certain amount of suspicion over the pond.
