Sheilaz
Having decided to invest in a good pillow that is designed especially to give good sleeping posture, I feel uncertain about which one to choose. Thought the forum would be the best place to receive advice, especially as I know the subject has been discussed before (but can't find it.) Suggestions please! Egluntyne
I got a lovely one from Ikea,...... This isn't the exact one but it was that sort of shape. It is ever so comfy.....although I did find it a bit odd for a couple of nights.
Sheilaz
Thanks Egluntine, looks interesting (perhaps you'll start a craze ). I've never been to Ikea. I was thinking of the memory sort or similar that is specifically designed to give the correct support. I've never had trouble sleeping before but now have a condition that is so painful that I need to eliminate any possibility of bad sleeping posture. Be good if it eliminated the pain too, but I certainly need to try & get the right pillow support . I've only slept on one pillow for years and have a good, not sagging mattress, so I'm not sure posture is the problem, but worth a try. I might post separately about the pain, Omleteers can solve anything! Maria, this topic is for everyone, hope it helps you too!

Lesley
It was me that started the previous thread......... and I still love my new bedding! I thought my aches and pains were just part of becoming older......... until we bought the memory foam mattress topper - now, I wouldn't be without it! It makes so much difference. I've tried a shaped pillow before and never got on with them so I just went for a hollowfill fibre one as I don't have feather. We used John Lewis as their site has some good descriptions of their pillows etc. Do consider the mattress topper.............
theherd123
Typical me! I have suggested one of those body pillows that pregnant women use in your other post about rib pain Not too sure about one to rest your head on though
Guest
Hi Sheila! I too have a memory foam mattress topper. It's important that it is at least 7 cms deep. I bought ours from here and it has been excellent. http://www.summittoppers.co.uk/ For pillows - and I have tested many because of a neck problem - I would recommend Dunlopillo. I use their FIRM pillow (known as super comfort)and I bought the latest from Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dunlopillo-Super-Comfort-Latex-Pillow/dp/B000LNIRTM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1205487733&sr=8-1 I find it is very supportive in the middle of the pillow, so that my head doesn't squash the pillow down, thus stretching my neck incorrectly - if you know what I mean! I hope that's helpful. Life is impossible if we don't sleep well!
Tina C
We have Tempur Orginal pillows. http://www.tempur.co.uk/tempurUK/pillows/ Mike loves his (he has a back problem) but I switch between the Tempur pillow (firm) and a squashy feather one. They are not cheap but he negotiated a deal when we were buying a mattress and another piece of furniture and got one free.
Popcorn
:)I was thinking of the memory sort or similar that is specifically designed to give the correct support. My Mum just treated us both to a Memory Foam pillow Sheila. It's actually a memory foam wrap around a normal foam middle. I used it for a week and found that I have gone back to my old faithful - a comfy, springy foam pillow that doesn't go flat on one side and supports my neck all round on both sides and it isn't streched into a funny position. It's a Dunlopillo - Super Comfort - Latex Foam. It does need replacing, which is why Mum got the memory foam one, but it's the best pillow in the world. I've taken it everywhere with me. I see Ginette has recommended one too. Memory foam are good, they mold to your shape and give good support, but I've found mine a bit too firm and have been fluffing it back up during the night when I've moved position to encourage the foam to expand again. It really does depend what you need to help relieve your discomfort.

You are right that it depends what people need and I hesitated for years before recommending Dunlopillo. Now that all my family use them and DH (who would be happy with anything ) really likes his, I suspect that they are good pillows for most people. little chickadee
I also recommend Tempur. They are expensive, but worth every penny. I tried lots of less expensive ones before trying these and have never looked back. I used to find it very difficult to get comfortable in bed at night, but my pillow is brill
Popcorn
I take my pillow everywhere with me too! You should see mine Ginette It's in a really sorrowful state. It's now encased in TWO pillowcases as the foam is flaking away and leaves a trail behind. I can't grumble though - it is over 20 years old and has had lots of wear and washes. I'm going to invest in a new one, even though I have my memory foam one now, I just can't sleep without my Dunlopillow

Guest
We have a memory foam mattress topper and memory foam pillows, and I've never slept better! The pillows are made from chips of memory foam, rather than a solid shaped slab, as chookiehubbie didn't fancy the slab ones, and we both love them. ajm200
I'd recommend a Tempur pillow. Tempur products are expensive but worth it. We got the mattress last year to help with back problems that I'd suffered for years. It was so severe I ended up on crutches - within a few months of using the mattress and pillow the pain had almost gone. If you have a back problem that is recognised by your Doctor you can get tempur products VAT free which can save you a fortune.
Sheilaz
Thank you so much for the recommendations, it really has given me something to look at. I have some money saved from gifts that I didn't spend as I didn't need anything and wanted to treat myself to something luxurious but long lasting when I thought of the right thing. So, a good pillow will be just right! Thanks for the ideas, Omleteers are so helpful!
Guest
OMG I have a Dunlopillo too - have been using them for at least 20 years. NEVER sleep without one - I take one everywhere I go too. If you sleep on your own pillow you always get a good nights sleep. I got my last ones from Makro.
Kathy C
I had solid Memory foam pillow from Avon ( it was contoured) and it was great but small. So treated myself to one from Argos(£26) at the new year that was normal size and not contoured and absolutely love it!
