Blackrocksrock
We are in the dark - on the computer and listening to the radio - scottish music! - dont think anyone else around is doing it - we see lights but we are in the country with no immediate neighbours anyway
Christian
Fire roaring and the laptop on. Its blowy a gale outside, but toasty and snug here!
nursechick
Sitting in the dark here too.Looks like we're the only ones in our street.
bronze
We did it Dh wasnt too happy but we watch a film. Light s blazing everywhere in all our neighbours houses. Made me very aware how much people use.
hilda-and-evadne
I don't think London is participating ... ':(' Looking out of my bathroom window just after 8.00pm, I could see Canary Wharf tower and the towers near it in Docklands ablaze with lights as usual. Had Radio 4 on all evening, and there was no mention of it there either.
Tina C
Whoops missed this completely . Just before 8 Mike and I had a 'discussion' about the kitchen light - I left it on - as I was going back in there - he switched it off. Its a constant theme in this house
Egluntyne
We watched Casualty.....in the dark. Not a light on in the house. Looking up and down the road I'm guessing we were the only ones.
MedusA
We did it too. Had a symbolic switching off at precisely 8pm. I looked out of the window and no-one else in our street seemed to be participating. Guess that's why I'm known as the "mad green woman at No. 60" then. Beki
We switched everything - including the laptop - off! We lit a couple of tealights and laid on the sofa in silence, with OH tickling my feet hehehe for about half an hour. Then we got the drafts out and played that (i won! woo!) by candlelight. Then OH and DD had a game (she won too lol) and then we realised it was about ten past nine so OH switched everything back on pronto It was lovely and relaxing though.. and surprisingly not boring AT ALL! No tv, no laptop, no lights, no kettle... was wonderful just to sit and think clearly for an hour! We've agreed to make it a weekly thing now! Although maybe not on a saturday night (when the best TV progs are on)
Eyren
I missed this - too busy on my allotment when this thread started. However I always make an effort to turn the lights off when not in use, so yesterday evening 8-9pm there wouldn't have been much on except 2 low-energy bulbs (in the living room) - apart from trips upstairs to the loo, when I prefer safety over planet-saving! Sheilaz
We switched everything... off! ...... no kettle... Don't know how you managed that part! Shame I didn't know about this and I think very few people did, but thanks for explaining, Bronze and all(and about the black Google page Poet, I thought it was my computer). I couldn't access the webpage either, is it a one off or hopes for another hour sometime? What a good idea though, if only more participation. But, I would have thought that candles instead of lightbulbs was missing the point a bit, as Bronze suggests?
