Matthew
I'm still behind with everything - no doubt it will all catch up Today I planted my onion sets - before it rained Given the weather I reckon you are on time and we are all early.. lol My grandad use to say all you grow early is disappointment That's how I feel about it Matthew. You really have to keep an eye on things sown or planted early and it can be really disappointing to lose everything. I always tell people I'm late - I think it gives them hope I might even get some beans in pots this weekend plan for this weekend is..... brussells/cabbages/purple sprouting broc into seed trays under cloches pumpkins inside french and runners into pots somewhere under cover final attempt at leeks... ubereglu
Yesterday I did some more planting: Sweetcorn 'Swift F1' Pumpkin 'Hooligan F1 Hybrid' Nasturtium 'African Queen' I shall do some more sowing later on in the week, but will have to buy some more pots and get Mum to pick up some more Yeo Valley yoghurt trays from work. (They're just the right size for the 9cm pots I have!)
redhotchick
Wow! Y'all have been very busy! I got some potatoes in this week (Anya). With all this rain it's unlikely I'll get anything in over the weekend. Of the seeds I sowed last Sunday all the tomatoes and the squash/courgettes have germinated already. I'm amazed! Mathew, why a "final attempt at leeks"? I'm growing Musselburgh for the first time this year. Erhm, I'm growing most things for the first time this year. Eyren
I was waiting for this weekend, as I am following the moon method this year Sown yesterday: Garden: spinach, cos lettuce, spring onions, ruby chard Cold frame*: chard (swiss and ruby) and second batch of leeks, all to go on the allotment eventually Indoors: African marigolds and nasturtiums for companion planting on the allotment; lupins, stock and pansies for colour in the garden (out of reach of the chooks!) In the coming week I will also be sowing romanesco cauli, courgettes, winter squash, sweetcorn and dwarf french beans, potting up my outdoor cucumbers and tomatoes, and selling my spare plants at work. Plus I need to dig an allotment bed today and get my runner beans in there by next Saturday. Phew! * Actually a mini-greenhouse unit covered in fleece
Snowy
It's been so nice and warm here today, we spent the afternoon gardening! Seeds sown: more radish, spring onions, rocket, carrots, rainbow chard, dwarf french beans, runner beans. Plus cleaned out the fish pond pump, dug a big hole for a sandpit and fixed my bike's puncture! Then I crashed on the settee for an hour

Matthew
Wow! Y'all have been very busy! Mathew, why a "final attempt at leeks"? I'm growing Musselburgh for the first time this year. . My first set of seedlings are looking very sorry for themselves... got left out under a cloche with the very sharp frost without any hardening off.. This weekend: Seedbed: Cabbage (minicole) Brussels Purple sprouting brocoli leeks Under mini poly tunnel Courgette French Marigolds Propogator indoors French beans Tumbling Toms pumpkins (a giant one for allotment competition and normal ones for halloween) Second earlies: Lady Christyl (sp) on allotment In raised beds at home first row of mixed lettuce second variety of parsnip found in shed in suitable gaps another row of radish in between germinating parsnips And planted out my two comfrey plants
moochoo
I decided that seen as it was such a nice day that my triffid sized mixed squashes and sweetcorn needed to go outside. However, I am still a little wary of a late frost so have also made a polytunnel for them to live in for a little while. It's a little heath robinson but it'll give them some warmth and protection until the weather's a little more stable. At least now that's my three sisters bed planted up. Everything else seems to be coming on well too, let's hope for more predictable weather and less slugs this year!
chickencam
Wow you're early with those crops, you will be munching them when we are planting out I have sown today:- spinach radish lettuce leeks spring onions red and white put 3 organic sweet potato tubers which are showibng signs of shoots into pots hoping for my own slips to plant out. potted a tomato plant into a basket ready to go outside in a few weeks Topped up my potato sacks potted on 16 cabbage seedlings to grow on for the allotment in a few weeks planted out 2 lavatera(sp) cuttings that had rooted I think that's it still loads to do though
little chickadee
I'm having a mammoth sowing day tomorrow. OH wanted to know what I wanted to do on my birthday, and I opted for having him at my disposal to help me sow all the stuff I want to
Couperman
spuds, spuds, spuds, spuds, spuds, spuds. Moved the first earlies outside today, planted my second earlies and some maincrop spuds too! So we now have three potato barrels of first earlies already sprouting out of the top. Two potato planters of second earlies. One potato planter and two compost bags of main crops. And a fifty gallon drum with maincrops in too! I also found some seriously chitted spuds in the cupboard so I might plant them too. I am not sure if the maincrops will work in containers but there's one way to find out I am going to sow lots of random stuff tomorrow weather permitting. Kev. Matthew
Last weekend created a natural wood structure for the sweet peas and they were planted out underneath it, then surrounded by a coffee ground barrier. second peas are poking through and the first beetroot and spinach are showing nicely. Pricked out my parsnips and thinned the first set of carrots. French beans are just starting to appear in modules under my poundshop polytunnel This weekend as OH is away I have free rein to spend whole weekend on the allotment Main crop potatoes going in, three varieties including Stemster and golden wonder My pumpkin and squashes have germinated and are starting to turn into triffids so they are going to be potted on asap. brocoli is almost ready for transplanting from seed bed to allotment. decided to grow a whole bunch of haricot beans for drying and using next winter so going to get them either in situ or into modules too. Couperman
Today I sowed, carrots, lettuce, raddishes, beetroot, broccoli, peas, dwarf runner beans and broad beans. I also moved the tomatoes and bell peppers into the greenhouse and rescued some fuschias I forgot to open I think I will grow some peas and beans up the side of the run for the raptors to peck at. I will need to plant them far enough away so they stand a chance though. Tomorrow I need to empty the wormery and cut the front grass it's embarrassingly long I will need to pop out for some more compost too. Ours isn't quite ready yet. I gardened! Yay Kev.
