redfrock
I am so sorry to hear what has happened, and speechless. Your post made me weep. It is also a very worrying situation - I am never able to get my head round people's depravities - which is basically what this is. Huge hugs xx
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
Hence I live quietly, and try not to be noticed; and we live in a village. It must be hell in a town. i live on the edge of a small respectable village - nothing ever really happens here. the teens responsible are from a local town. the witnesses are a small group of children aged between 8 and 10 who saw the teens throwing rocks and stones at my dog. the beating of the dog down the road was witnessed by a 65 and 27 yr old woman who dialled 999. spoke to the vet earlier and she states that this is a more likely account for the decline of health in such a short space of time (he was seen a few days before and had a full health check up and given steroid and antibiotics for and ear infection). she will put this into a statement for the police. anyway the vet was reassuring and comforting
chelsea
im glad you feel comforted Bertie and also im glad you are persuing/taking this further with the police. Continue on your cause as long as you feel able and try and get some justice for your poor dog.
Karen & co.
I don't have any words that will make this better, but just to say I'm sorry Karen x
Goosey Lucy
I'm stunned. And so sorry. I can't believe that you've titled this 'bit sad about my dog', I think I would have put furious or distraught. The only consolation I can think of is that he knew you loved him and you did everything you could for him. I am also a firm believer in what goes around, comes around. One day the thugs that did this will get their comeuppance. I just hope it comes sooner rather than later. x
lisa33
I'm totally horrified by what has happened to your dog. I'm so very sorry that there are people in the world that can do these acts of cruelty without a thought.
Fleur
that's dreadful!!! i'l send some bad thoughts their way! at least your dog had several years of happy life, many doggies don't even get that.
Basset
Bertie, I just wanted to add my sincere sympathy to you. Those yobs are the scum of the earth - I can't think of strong enough words to describe them. Big hug to you,

Olly
never mind bite their bums, I'd like to see a few of their softer parts permanently removed! I'm so sorry Bertie McS, it's an awful thing to happen, and still more awful for you to find out now.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh my word, Mrs Bertie, I was moved to tears too by this appalling story . How awful for you and your poor little dog. I hope those mindless thugs get a just punishment although sadly I suspect that won't happen .
Egluntyne
That is unspeakable. I am so sorry. I would be pushing for an animal cruelty conviction.
freddie
A few yrs ago, we ended up with cctv at the back of our house as a young girl of about 9 or 10 had come in, and stamped on one of our very tame hens, she was so badly hurt we had to dipatch her. My 3 yr old was witness to this. The family the girl comes from are thick, and horrid. One of their dogs was rescued from the sewage works earlier this yr, I have one of their cats living with me, and the RSPCA can do nothing, as they put down food and water, so are "above the law". And I pay my taxes to keep them doing nothing all day. Don't get me going on this............ We also have another lot who have been prosecuted recently for starving 3 geese to death up at the allotments. At least they got done. The "owner of the geese" is a farm worker.. Ana's flock
That's so unbelievably nasty! I agree with all of you. Sometimes I feel ashamed of belonging to the same species as those 'things' - I won't call them animals or beasts because I love animals! I'm so sorry for you. Nothing will bring your dog back, that's sad enough, but finding out what happened to him is even worse. At least you gave him lots of love and a happy life. Hopefully another lucky doggy will have the same fortune and share your home in the future. Still... they say what you do in life, whether good or bad, comes back to you threefold... I wouldn't like to be one of those cruel people!

Joojoo
I am absolutely disgusted and so very sorry for everything that you and your poor little dog have had to go through. To be honest I'm totally lost for words. We seem to hear more and more, about horrific cruelty to animals and I have to say that on occasions I am totally ashamed to be a member of the human race. Ana - you are quite right. They are not animals. I don't think there is a word that adequately describes these "human beings".
chickencam
Losing a beloved pet is always hard, but your situation is a whole lot worse. Thinking of you and yours at this difficult time. Some of the things we hear about our fellow humans Fortunately they are still in the minority.
BERTIE MCSQUIRTY
the police have just rang- looks like they will get locked up earlier on next week - there's over a dozen statements they need to take (some of which are done). the vet has told them that bertie's sudden downfall is consistant with having a head trauma - thankfully she had seen him only a few days before where he had a thorough health check. they are looking at animal cruelty charge on top of the burglary - but it depends if they have gained enough evidence for a more serious charge. thankfully bertie can be suffering no more i am glad that he went peacefully and with me there. i will upload a photo later of bertie sharing the chickens food (s"Ooops, word censored!"s) a few days before his death
The Dogmother
It will be lovely to see a photo of him. I was discussing the situation with a friend, and they sent me this link http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2008/04/25/tortured-by-kids-of-4-89520-20393942/ It really does make me sad to hear of people behaving in this way towards anything - animal or human.
