New Vacuum Cleaners?

Hi All,

 

I missed the gadget show tonight and I saw that they featured vacuum cleaners?

 

We need a new cleaner. We currently have the OH's Dyson DC4 its ok but not the best. I had a Dyson DC7 till OH killed it by sucking up a load of plaster dust in it :evil::roll:

 

We want something that is not a silly robot thing, just a powerful hoover/ electrolux/ dyson or what ever that is good for going under beds, on multi floors and GREAT for cat hair? It must have a visable dust thing that is removeable and must have great suction. We don't want to spend over £280ish so recommendations from forum members would be very much appreciated. (I must admit I loved my Dyson DC7 - it was the blue one. I am still mourning my loss LOL). :roll:

PS: Is there one that sucks up an annoying OH for disposal to his PC seat once wifey wants to speak to him??? :lol:

I second the Dyson animal. We dont have one but the holiday cottage we go to has one and hoovers up the pet hairs brilliantly.

 

We have just bought another Dyson (DC14 All floors I think) and its good, but I would have preferred the animal but it was too expensive. Argos did have it on special offer with about £100 off when we were looking but it was out of stock - might be worth your while looking at Argos again. :)

 

As a pet owner of a dog who moults 365 days a year you cannot beat a Dyson IMO. :wink:nothing sucks better than a Dyson.

 

The only downfall with them is that they are so heavy. :(

CAnnot go past the Dyson animal - its wonderful for all the cat and dog hairs and sawdust from our house.

 

I looked at this as the obvious choice on the web - does it go under a bed easily? Our bed is one of those bedstead things with about a foot of clearance space.

 

Edit - reason for asking is that my cats tend to 'roost' under the bed on a thick claret carpet - it's covered in hair and I think this is one of the reasons my cough is not easing as cat hair just seems to be all over the bedroom. It would be difficult to move the bed as its 5ft metal and heavy :?

Not trying to cause chaos, but I've had three dysons, none had great suction, and all broke down easily... I now live happily with a plain Henry, and last weekend DH was full of praise for him as it cleaned his car very smoothly (nasty incident with a vintage cadillac and a new soft top and a new panel of glass... this new panel is no more...)

 

This being said, my dysons were a while ago, and maybe the ones produced now are better.

The little "bin" does need emptying after every 2 rooms...but the fact that I'm not doing the hoovering makes that a very small sacrifice....and it takes 5 seconds to do.

 

 

I find my house is much cleaner than it was. :lol:

 

My main prob is the cat hair and how it accumulates under the beds - spesh mine :vom: We have deep carpets and the cats like grooming on them - its a no win situation - cough cough

I don't have cats so can't say how well it would do re the hair.

 

That is a nasty cough you have got there. :lol:

 

Tis' Egluntine I am getting over the flu chest virus thing and it's worse when I am in bed above the cat hair untouched graveyard that is the carpet under my bed boo hoo. :x

We have 3 cats and a dog and the roomba gets more hair from the carpet than the dyson ever did. We just can't believe it. Friends come to stay and leave amazed by it's capabilities. We have a dyson hand held now for car , chairs and stairs :D

 

Happy decision making :wink:

I have a Sebo which is really fab,but its gathering dust now I have my Roomba,which is a truly amazing piece of kit 8)

 

My house is MUCH cleaner,MUCH tidier (you need to keep the floors pretty clear) & I am MUCh happier because of this :P

I don't feel under stress to hoover all the time anymore.

 

Good Housekeeping always has great consumer tests on products,so if you go to their webpage you can see what they think too.

 

Amazon has reviews on products too,which is also very useful.

My mum was lucky enough to have one of the original Dyson’s when they first came out and it is fantastic!!

 

It's still going well and nothing has gone wrong, it's very strong and well put together!!

 

However unfortunately in my opinion the build quality has now fallen way below competitors! We have tried about 3 different models over the past few years and they have all been rubbish and gone straight back for a refund. With very flimsy plastic and just an overall bad design with lots of fiddly breakable plastic parts.

 

We have also tried quite a few of the cheapo budget bagged and bag less cylinder hoovers (we're not a fan of uprights) and they have all failed on us. Our last one actually over heated and the plastic melted at the bottom and some of the components fell out! :shock: Luckily it was refunded under warranty!

 

We have now gone back to basics with a Henry numatic hoover. It features commercial grade filtration (to hospital standards) and is the hoover of choice for many businesses. I have to say it's fantastic, suction is amazing - the best I've experienced!! :wink: And the 9 litre dust bag takes ages to fill and there is nothing obvious to break with sturdy metal poles and metal floor brush, it has been designed to last time and time again. I would definitely recommend it and buy one again, but I don't think I'll need to (as it seems to be so well designed and constructed with quality parts).

 

Whatever you decide try to stay clear of turbo brushes. In our experience they just get clogged with hair and need to be taken apart on a regular basis to put their drive belts back in place.

I am another one in praise of Henry. We had a lot of problems with Dysons, but Henry is fabulous - We've got 3 cats and 2 dogs and it seems to do the job really well :D We figured that so many professional cleaners use them, they've got to be good and we're delighted. 2 years old and not a single problem. Great suction and soooo simple. Plus our son used to be scared of Vacuums and he liked Henry because he was red (his favourite colour!) and he had a funny smiley face.

I have just watched the Gadget Show whilst dashing off a bit of ironing.

 

The test they set the robot vacuum cleaners was ridiculous.

 

My carpets are never that filthy.

 

Kim and Aggie would have been needed to deal with that much debris.

 

I'm getting more and more impressed with the Scooba.

I'm on my second Dyson and I have to say I don't think it is as good quality as the first, but still think that they are worth the extra. I hate it when we are in holiday cotttages etc and have to use cleaners that just don't work. My BIL has an upright Hoover and it is quicker to go round with a pan and brush and your fingers :shock:

 

I would be tempted by a Roomba should my Dyson pack up 8)
