Holiday Horror

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm totally devastated. I've been on holiday for a week leaving the chooks and babies in the care of my son. On night he didn't shut them up at night. All my beloved orpington hens, 6 baby orpington chicks and one silkie have been taken, presumably by Mr Fox. All that was left was a few feathers. One silkie managed to escape- the very aggressive Milly, also known as "Psycho-Hen", and I had one broody in the conservatory untouched. She hatched 3 chicks the same night.

I've never had any sight or evidence of foxes for the two years I've been keeping hens. Its amazing that Mr Fox was around the one night the hens were not shut in. So please take care everyone, even if you are sure there are no foxes in your area.

So sorry to hear your devastating news.

Even if you don't see any foxes they are opportunists patiently waiting for the right moment.

So please take care everyone, even if you are sure there are no foxes in your area.

You are right to warn others.
